Timothy Bryan Steward, age 54, of Toledo, Ohio, passed away on Friday, May 24, 2013, after a long illness due to residual effects of a brain tumor. Tim was born on April 4, 1959, and grew up on Marblehead Peninsula in Lakeside, Ohio. He was the youngest child of Jane Steward of Toledo and Bradenton, Florida, and the late Ralph Steward.A 1977 graduate of Danbury High School, Tim received his Bachelor of Science in Mathematics Education from Bowling Green State University. He went on to earn his Masters Degree in Education at the University of Toledo.Tim taught high school mathematics for 25 years in the state of Ohio with nearly 20 years in the Toledo area at Sylvania Northview. One of Tim’s goals was to convey to his students the many ways math will be used in their future lives. He also coached high school basketball in the Dayton area and at Northview. Tim was a devoted volunteer and spent many hours coaching Special Olympics teams. He was an avid sports fan and athlete. When asked, “Tim, what is your favorite sport?” Tim would answer, “Whatever is in season!”Tim was a member of the Epworth United Methodist Church in Toledo.He is survived by his devoted and loving mother Jane Steward and his five loving siblings and their families: Nancy (Steward) and Daniel Murray of Olney, Maryland; Larry and Caroline Steward of Indianapolis, Indiana; Judy (Steward) and Thomas Borzilleri of Harpers Ferry, West Virginia; Bradley Steward of Bradenton, Florida; and Scott and Marie Steward of Columbus, Ohio. Tim also leaves behind 12 nieces and nephews and three great-nieces and great-nephews, as well as many friends in Toledo and the Lakeside-Marblehead area. He was preceded in death by his father Ralph Steward.A memorial service will be held at the Lakeside United Methodist Church in Lakeside, Ohio, at 11:00 am on Friday, June 14, 2013. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Tim’s name may be made to the Lakeside Fund at Lakeside, Ohio (www.lakesideohio.com/giving) or to the Ebeid Hospice Residence in Sylvania, Ohio.
