Born August 12, 1932 to Delbert & Cecil (Durain) Binkley in Lafayette, Ohio. John graduated from Lafayette High School in 1950. He entered the Armed Services (Rycom detachment) in Okinawa, 1952-1954. John Worked for 3 years for the Lafayette Corp. He also worked for the Sears store in Lima.
John married Helen Ann Copus in 1957. They were married for 43 years before his beloved wife passed away. John worked for American Telephone & Ohio Bell as a cable man. He retired from Ohio Bell in 1986. He spent the next many years helping area farmers while he took care of his wife who had Multiple Sclerosis.
John was a Boy Scout leader in Winameg for 7 years. He helped with the Boy Scout Board of Review for many years. He was also very active at Trinity Lutheran Church in Wauseon, where he taught Sunday School, sang in the church choir, played dart-ball and was a trustee many times. John’s hobbies included gardening, wood working, camping, canoeing & motorcycling.
They had 3 children, Douglas (Diane) Binkley, Elaine Nofziger, and Alice (John) Gamber. John had 11 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren. Preceding him in death were his parents, Delbert & Cecil Binkley; in-laws, Clarence & Mary Copus; wife, Helen Ann Binkley; brother, James Binkley; daughter-in-law, Diane Binkley; 2 infant great granddaughters; and 1 infant great-great grandson.
A memorial service in John’s honor will be Sunday, December 8, 2019 at 7:00 pm at Trinity Lutheran Church in Wauseon. All are welcome. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church, Wauseon, CHP of Archbold (Hospice), or the Wauseon Library.
