Angela Rose Thompson (Grill) died peacefully on April 18, 2016 at Hospice in Sylvania, Ohio. She was 78 years old. She was born to Albert and Clemintine Grill in Toledo, Ohio on February 28, 1938. She attended Notre Dame Academy. After school she was employed at Lamson’s in Toledo. In 1956, she married Robert B. Thompson and moved to Point Place in Toledo, Ohio where she and Bob lived and celebrated 60 years of marriage. They raised two successful and accomplished children in Point Place. Angela had an abiding love of flowers and gardening and when her children were older, she returned to work at Eddington’s Nursery in the Point as a floral designer and manager. Later, she and Bob started their own flower shop, Angela’s Flower’s & Gifts and provided beautiful flowers and arrangements for many appreciative friends and customers from all over. She was an active member of the Point Place Business association and served many business and individual accounts. She enjoyed employing numerous people through the years and helping many to pursue their dreams. She created memories for many weddings and special occasions for 18 years. Angela was active in her parish church (St. John the Baptist Catholic Church) and later in her own mother’s church (St. Vincent DePaul Catholic Church). She was also active and supportive of her children’s school activities and participated in numerous activities at both Notre Dame and St. Francis where her children attended high school. She was constantly entertaining her children’s neighborhood, high school, and college friends and became a mother-like figure for many of them. If asked, Angela would tell you her greatest accomplishments were seeing her daughter complete her doctorate in molecular biology and become a successful genetics researcher at the University of Florida and her Eagle Scout son, who also attained advanced graduate degrees in economics, become a successful financial professional with Merrill Lynch. One of her greatest joys was cooking and entertaining family and friends particularly during the holiday seasons when she would have her children back together again. Angela and her family were also active at North Cape Yacht Club where she and Bob were members since 1974. While Bob and the children enjoyed sailing, Angela relished the many life-long friends and relationships they developed over the years at North Cape and which they maintained long after their sailing days were behind them. The annual Spaghetti Dinner that the Thompson’s helped organize and run (and for which she prepared gallons of tomato sauce) was one of the high-lights of North Cape for many years. After selling Angela’s Flower’s & Gifts, she and Bob enjoyed traveling the U.S. and Canada, taking in all the sights both outdoors and indoors. As she grew older, her greatest enjoyment was spending time with her family, friends and special neighbors. She is survived by her husband, Robert, daughter, Andrea (Kevin) Kohn and son, Robert (Dana) Thompson. She is also survived by her sister, Anthenette (Toni) Breininger and numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents and sisters, Betty, Nancy, Genny and brothers, Barney and Al. A Memorial Service will be held at St. John Catholic Church in Point Place on Thursday, May 12, 2016 at 12 noon. A gathering of friends and family to celebrate Angela’s life will be held immediately after the Memorial Service at North Cape Yacht Club in LaSalle, Michigan exit 9 off I-75. The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Boy Scouts of America, Erie Shores Council located in Sylvania, OH or The American Cancer Society located in Perrysburg, OH. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to The Cremation Society of Toledo.
