William P. Staley, age 76, of Palatka, Florida, formerly of Toledo, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, July 5, 2017 at the Putnum Community Medical Center in Florida after complications of a chronic illness. Bill attended Wernert Elementary School and was a 1958 Graduate of Whitmer High School. He was a friend to all who knew him, always helping others. He prided himself on being a hard worker, and retired in 2003 after 50 years as a Local 8 IBEW electrician. Bill enjoyed his time after retirement attending his grandchildren’s many school and sporting events. He was also the assistant equipment manager for the Whitmer Panther’s Football Team. Bill loved fishing and spent a great deal of his life on his boat at Lake Erie with close friends and family catching perch and walleye. In 1976, he was recognized by the Toledo Blade for an angler’s record, catching nearly 30,000 fish in that year. Bill also enjoyed NASCAR and was a diehard Ohio State Buckeyes fan. He will be greatly missed by all that knew him. Bill is survived by his high school sweetheart of 57 years, his wife, Carol; daughters, Cindy (Doug) Brunt and Michele (Jeff) Schultz; grandchildren, Chelsea (Greg) Thompson, Aaron and Andrew Schultz, Shannon (Shane Wolff) Brunt, Heather Brunt, and Doug (Erica) Brunt; six great-grandchildren; and special sister-in-law, Marilyn (Herb) Kimball. A memorial service will be held Saturday, September 16, 2017 at 11am at the Sylvania First UMC, 7000 Erie St, Sylvania, Ohio, please join family to share your special memories of Bill.
