Theodore George Ulmer Sr. Master Sergeant ret.
Theodore George Ulmer (Ted, UT) was born on August 11, 1941 to Wm. & Eleanor Will Ulmer in Toledo, Ohio. Ted died peacefully at the age of 78 on February 14, 2020 from complications of MDS which is pre leukemia. Ted graduated from Macomber high school and was working at the Toledo Zoo when he decided to enlist in the Air Force. Ted served our country for 20 years, 6 months and 10 days before retiring.
Ted was always a hard working man, working two jobs during and after his service years. Ted was hired in his early 70’s as Christmas help at Dollar Tree and enjoyed keeping busy so much he was able to work much longer before his health would no longer permit him. Thank you so much Bill for being a great boss and becoming a friend.
Ted was preceded in death by his parents, his son Ted Jr., two sisters, June Rose and Mary Lou, and his brother Bill. Ted is survived by his girlfriend of 27 years Shirley, his daughter Mary Harlan (Dean Myers) and his son Michael along with six grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. He is also survived by two brothers, John and Laval Ulmer and five sisters, Sue Kirby, Bonnie (James) Dale, Kathy (Rick) Radde, Rosemary (Jay) Eurenius, and Darnel (Tom) Forthome, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Ted was a long time member of the American Legion Post 553. For many years Ted took part in the honor guard for funerals of fellow members and the placing of the flags on graves for Memorial Day. Ted enjoyed legion golf, horse shoes and poker. He also enjoyed researching his family genealogy.
Shirley would like to thank Dr. Verghese and his staff at the Dana Center for all their help and kindness, the ladies in the lab at the Dana Center for their kindness, Ted enjoyed talking to you weekly. Thank you to the Toledo VA clinic and the VA hospital for years and excellent care. Ted’s wishes were for no visitation and no services so a memorial celebration with military honors will be held this spring.
