Kellie from Hospice had Nelle call me at 2:50 pm to tell me her breathing had changed and I needed to come in. When I got in next to her side, Kellie informed me her breathing was once every 45 seconds but her heart was still beating. I told mom we would dance with dad our final dance and I played the Hurt and the Healer. I held momma’s hands up and swayed to and fro and then cried on her shoulder wanting to hold her and wanting her to hold me then danced some more. Kellie then came back in the room and checked her lungs and her heart and stood to tell me she was gone. She kind of chuckled because a couple peacocks had shown up one day and I took to feeding them while I watched over mom through the window. That day the peacocks were peaking through the window and then went and laid in the grass right out her window. I showed Kellie the meaning of the peacock and it all just fit together. Their symbolism is: vision, self expression, spirituality, awakening, integrity, freedom, guidance, protection and watchfulness. Their tail is considered the eyes of the stars. They represent: resurrection, renewal, immortality within the teachings of Christianity. I felt as if I waltzed mom up and handed her back to dad to carry her the rest of the way and the peacocks were there to assure me that the exchange from her vile earthly body to God’s glorious heavenly body was complete.
