Dennis “Denny” Miller, age 76, of Maumee, Ohio passed away March 17, 2019 at Woodhaven Health in Bowling Green, Ohio surrounded by loving family. He was born on October 23, 1942 in Toledo, Ohio to the late Glenn and Rosalie Miller.
Denny lived his early life in South Toledo before the family moved to Maumee, Ohio. Denny graduated from Maumee High School, the University of Toledo Community and Technical College, and attended Ferris State University. In April 1966 he married Linda E. Lee form Wauseon, OH.
After graduation he served his country in the U.S. Army, 983rd Engineers Reserve Unit at the University of Toledo. Denny held various purchasing and management positions in manufacturing, electrical distribution, and Con Agra Foods Inc. in Perrysburg, Ohio. After his retirement he formed his own consulting company and continued to consult for Con Agra Food Plants. Denny also served as a staff member for Maison Dardenne Walker Funeral Home in Maumee. He used his business experience by working for SCORE, helping clients start up businesses. Denny also gave back to his community by working as a crossing guard for the Maumee Police Department. He was also a Past Master of the Calumet Lodge and a member in good standing in the Northern Light Lodge in Maumee, Ohio. As an active community leader, Denny was a 16 year member of the Board of Directors of the American Cancer Society. He served as a co-chair for many Relay for Life events raising thousands of dollars for the American Cancer Society of NW Ohio. Denny worked with ACS and formed the Man to Man Program in Ohio. He also lobbied against budget cuts for all cancer issues in the State of Ohio; he attended Celebration on the Hill in Washington, DC to lobby with national lawmakers on cancer issues. Denny also was an active cancer volunteer for RA Block National Cancer Hotline in Kansas City, MO. He was also an active Board Member with ITT Tech in Maumee, Ohio.
He was an avid sports fan of the University of Toledo Rockets, The Ohio State Buckeyes, and the Detroit Lions and Tigers. Denny and his wife, Linda, enjoyed traveling to the Caribbean, Mexico, Bahamas, and various places in the United States.
Surviving to cherish his memory is his wife of 53 years, Linda; son, Todd (Heather); daughter, Rebecca (Matt) Albright; brother, Gary (Jackie); sister, Christine (Ron) Purtee-Columbus; grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and special friend, Gene Pittman.
A memorial service will be held at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 1825 Glendale Ave, on April 20, 2019 beginning at 11:30 AM with a luncheon to follow.
Those wishing to give a memorial in Denny’s honor may do so to the American Cancer Society or to Holy Trinity Lutheran Church.
