Alex “Bubble” Russell made his transition from this life on August 7, 2018. To many he was known as “KB8DRG” on the Hamband, the Bootlegger, Dad, and Grandad. Alex Russell was born January 10, 1939 to Essie and Osceola Russell in Toledo, Ohio. At the age of nine, he moved to Detroit with his mom. Alex then moved back to Toledo and attended Scott, then Libby High School. Alex met the Love of his life Lauretta Odoms at the age of two (yes two) when his maternal grandmother would baby sit them. Well, being the love of his life, they got married at the age of 17 and 18. They remained united for the next 61 years. Through this union they had two daughters, Phyllis and Jeanette. In the 1960s, Alex was a member of the Rooster Tail Chicken Band Radio Club. After he obtained his ham license, KB8DRG, he became a member of The Toledo Relay Radio Club. Alex was also a charter member with the Hitch-Hikers Motorcycle Club where he and Lauretta rode for many years. Alex worked for Thomas Excavating Co. through seven seasons before being hired by the city water division. He later transferred to the city sewer maintenance department where he retired after 29 years as a supervisor.
Alex was preceded in death by his parents, and brothers, William Russell and Terry Russell. He left his beautiful memories to his wife, Lauretta Russell; daughters, Phyllis Russell- Epting and Jeanette Russell-Jeffries; granddaughters, Alexia Kynard of Atlanta, GA; Rosalyn Jeffries-(Allen) Bennett of Lorton, VA; LauRae Kynard-(William) Upchurch of Lorton, VA; Andrea Jeffries¬(Elliot)Simpson of Gulfport, MS; Brother, Elder Osceola Russell (Brenda) of Hampton, VA and Step-mom, Edna Russell; Six great grandchildren; In-laws, Bettye Hutt; Marilynn Gardner; Dorothy McAlister of Phoenix, AZ; Joey Eason; John Odoms; Joyce Winfree, Canal Winchester, OH; Anise Burton; Robert (Jennifer) Odoms of Dayton, OH and Dennis (Leona) Odoms; and many, many, many nieces and nephews.
