William H. Honn, Sr.

It is with much sadness that Bill’s family announces that he left this life to join our Lord on July 12, 2021. He was at home with his loving wife and sons at his side when he succumbed to his brief battle with cancer at the age of 81. Born on October 4, 1939, in Akron, OH, he was the only child of Grace (Howell) and Howard Henry Honn. He spent his high school years in East Schodack NY, graduating from Columbia High School in 1957. It was during this time Bill discovered his love for baseball, which led to a long softball career in Toledo Ohio. He was a graduate of the University of Toledo and a longstanding member of the Masonic Order, Lodge 788 and the Blissfield American Legion, Post 325. He oversaw many changes at The Toledo Hospital during his 20 years of employment, retiring as the Manager of the Engineering Department in 1999. It was in college where he met his wife Pam (Whalen). They were married on January 25, 1964 and spent 57 fantastic years at each other’s side. This union blessed them with two sons, Bud and Jeff. His love for his family was boundless. He never missed a sporting event, school function or any other occasion important to his boys. His sense of humor, kindness and generosity led him to many beautiful and lasting friendships. He was always willing to help anyone in need and was a champion for the underdog. His sons and many friends will tell you that he never failed at a chance to pay the tab. Bill volunteered to place flags at veteran’s graves on National holidays. It was important to him to honor those who served our country. He will be missed. He was a faithful fan of Ohio State, Cleveland Indians and Cleveland Browns. Never giving up on his Browns “Rebuilding since 1999.” Bill was a wonderful, loving husband, father, father-in-law, grandad, and great grandad. He is survived by his wife Pam; sons Bud (Jackie) and Jeff (Theresa); grandkids AJ, Zachy, Michael (Julie) and Aaron (Katie); 5 great grandkids, and one cousin Martha Gilhooly of Colorado Springs. He was preceded in death by his parents. Per his wishes, there will be no funeral. A tribute to his life will be held on August 21st from 2:00 to 5:00 pm at the American Legion Hall, 451 High Street, Blissfield, Michigan. As Bill would have wished, all are invited to bring a smile and a story to tell. The family would like to offer their immense gratitude and thanks to the nursing staff at Toledo Hospital and Hospice of Northwest Ohio for their kindness, support, and care over the past weeks. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations to Hospice of Northwest Ohio or your charity of choice.
