William Richard "Bill" Braker, age 80, passed away peacefully holding the hand of his son Robert on March 3, 2026, at Hospice of NW Ohio in Toledo, Ohio. Born on February 7, 1946, in Toledo, Bill lived a life marked by dedication to his family, service to his country, and a steadfast commitment to helping others.
A proud graduate of Central Catholic High School, Bill went on to serve his country with honor as a Vietnam veteran in the United States Navy from 1966 to 1970. His time in the Navy left an indelible mark on him, and he wore his Naval veteran hat every day as a testament to the sacrifices he made for his country.
After his military service, Bill embarked on a career as a Federal Grain Inspector, dedicating over 35 years to ensuring quality and integrity in his work. His professional life was characterized by diligence and reliability.
Family was at the heart of everything Bill did. He shared 53 beautiful years of marriage with his beloved wife, Josephine. Their enduring love and commitment were an inspiration to all who knew them. Together they built a family filled with love and cherished memories including a summer long trip across the country. They were literally inseparable and never met a buffet they didn't love!
Bill is survived by his wife Josephine; his son Robert (Allison) Braker; his daughter-in-law Lynn Braker; his brothers Joe (Kathy) Braker and Jim (Becky) Braker; and his grandchildren Grace (Drew Fritz), Samuel T., Charlie, and Anderson Braker. He was preceded in death by his son Thomas Braker; his parents Erwin and Lucille Braker; and his sister Judy Mason.
Bill’s children and grandchildren were the pride of his life. He was their biggest supporter—whether coaching their teams or driving them to practices and games. Watching his grandsons play sports brought him immense joy. And he adored any opportunity to spoil his granddaughter. A devoted family man through and through, Bill always put the needs of those he loved above all else.
In addition to being a dedicated husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, Bill enjoyed reading Clive Cussler novels, peppermint ice cream, crossword puzzles, any episode of Blue Bloods, casino hopping, monthly sibling dinners, day trips to Mexican Town for fresh Tortillas and the Detroit Tigers. He had a very distinctive laugh that will never be forgotten and his famous phrases will be passed on for generations.
You can "bet your sweet bippy" that Bill and his son Tom are now smiling down on all of us.
Bill’s legacy is one of love, service, and devotion. May the memory of William Richard "Bill" Braker bring comfort to all who knew him.
