Wanda Laverne (Cales) Troy left this earth on August 19, 2016 in Toledo, OH at the age of 94. Wanda was born in Columbus, OH on November 30, 1921 to Lena Crystal Bush and Ballard Cales. After her high school graduation, Wanda moved to Los Angeles where she worked at Lockheed Aviation and sold war bonds. Then she became a stewardess for TWA during World War II flying DC 3s. Wanda married her high school sweetheart, Richard Troy, in 1944 in New York.”” Her first daughter was born there and then they moved to Toledo, OH where two more daughters were born.” The thing she loved most was spending time with her daughters. Wanda worked at The Toledo Hospital where she was Director of Volunteers and then continued volunteering there for many years. When her daughters were growing up, she was President of the DeVeaux Mothers Club, a member of the Toledo Hospital Auxiliary, the Ability Center Auxiliary, a Girl Scout leader and involved in many more volunteer activities. Wanda enjoyed traveling, playing bridge, reading, and the sun and beaches in Montserrat and Florida. But most of all she enjoyed being with her family and friends.” Going to Ohio State/Michigan games with friends was a yearly tradition for Wanda and her husband. Wanda is survived by her loving husband of 72 years, Richard, and her daughters, Gay Escobar and Connie Troy. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Cheryl Troy Samuels; mother, Lena Smith; step-father, Harold W. Smith; and her only sister, Gaynelle. In her later years, Wanda made many friends with her caregivers. She cherished each and everyone one and wanted to thank them all for the wonderful care she received over the years.” Therefore, in lieu of flowers, Wanda has expressed any donations be made to Parkcliffe Community, Epworth United Methodist Church, ProMedica Hospice, and Guardian Angels.
