Virginia Marie Matuszek

Virginia “Ginny” Matuszek, age 96, passed away on December 20, 2022. She was born to Casper and Hattie Mowka on October 19, 1926. Ginny was a graduate of Central Catholic High School (1944) and Mary Manse College (1948) with a Bachelor of Science majoring in chemistry.

Her first employment was with Champion Spark Plug in their control laboratory. After 6 years Ginny left to raise her children. She re-entered the work force as a laboratory technologist in the College of Pharmacy at the University of Toledo, doing research for the Dean of Pharmacy. Ginny also was an advisor at the university.

She retired from the University of Toledo in 1987 and with her husband, Richard spent their winters in Ft. Myers, FL.

Ginny loved to bake goodies for her grandchildren, lunch with friends, gardening, and was an avid reader.

Preceding her in death were her dear husband, Richard; brother, Ralph Mowka; and nephew and God son, James Mowka.

She is survived by loving sons, Robert and Thomas (Jodi); grandchildren, Mathew, Scott, and Sarah; great-grandchildren, Reese, Annie, Poppy, and Madison; and dearest daughter-in-law, Sue.

A Mass celebrating Ginny’s life will be held at St. Patrick of Heatherdowns Catholic Church on January 10, 2023, at 10 am with visitation prior beginning at 9:30 am.
