Virginia Ginny Lockwood

March 23, 1927 — February 24, 2012

Virginia “Ginny” Lockwood passed away on February 24, 2012 at the age of 84. Born March 23, 1927 in Toledo, she was a graduate of DeVilbiss High School and spent her early years as a teller for a local bank. After raising her five children she returned to the work force where she was employed by Sears, Roebuck Company, retiring in 1998 after more than 35 years of dedicated service. Ginny was a zoo volunteer in her later years and an avid bridge and euchre player, who enjoyed John Wayne movies, big band music and her cats.She will long be remembered for her chocolate chip cookies, knitted booties and for being the best mom in the world, and she will be forever missed by her loving family.She is survived by her sister, Margie (Kretz) Black; daughters, Beth (Tom) Rager, Jill (David) Johnson and Nancy Haffelder; sons, Stephen Lockwood and William (Laura) Lockwood; grandchildren, Jason (Carrie) Johnson, Scott (Elizabeth) Johnson, Juliane Johnson, Leslie Lockwood, Stephanie (Frank) Brown, Molly Lockwood and Margaret Lockwood; great-grandchildren, Avery Lockwood, Devon Peterson, Jarret Johnson, Tatum Johnson and Pieper Johnson.Virginia was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Verleria (Hazelswartz) Kretz, and her daughter-in-law, Karen (Born) Lockwood.Services will be held on Friday, March 2, 2012 at Our Lady of Lourdes located at 6135 Hill Ave. in Toledo. Family visitation at the church will be from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m., with a memorial mass to immediately follow.In lieu of flowers memorial contributions are suggested to the American Heart Association, 7272 Greenville Ave. Dallas, TX 75231, or the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 22718 Oklahoma City, Oklahoma 73123.
