Virginia (Krygielski) Kowalski

December 24, 1926 — January 11, 2022

Virginia Kowalski, age 95, devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away in her sleep on January 11, 2022, at the Elizabeth Scott Community in Maumee, Ohio, as a result of vascular dementia. Virginia was born on December 24, 1926, in Toledo, to Stanley and Frances (Petekiewicz) Krygielski. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Mitchell, her parents, brothers (sisters-in-law) Alphonse, Arthur, Joe (Florence), John (Jane), and Leonard (Norma), and son-in-law Rick Doty. Virginia’s family was her greatest pride and pleasure. She was happiest when she was caring for and feeding her family and friends. In addition to her love of family, Virginia will be remembered for her baking and cooking; playing cards, games, and bingo; hours-long phone calls, and her signature hairstyle. Missing Virginia dearly are her children Larry (Sandy) Kowalski, Linda (Dave) Schoviak, Karen (Thom) Coehrs, and Kathy Doty; grandchildren Jennifer Schoviak, Michelle (Chris) Taylor, Gary (Danielle) Schoviak, Kimberly (Todd) Stanton, Kristin (Landon) Nickerson, Michael Kowalski, Alycia (Mike DeNieu) Kowalski, and Stephanie Kowalski; great-grandchildren Andrew, Alyson, and Jack Stanton, Dalaney Taylor, Noah, Caleb, and Abigail Schoviak, Brighley and Callan Nickerson; great-great-granddaughter Claire Stanton. Virginia is also survived by nephews, nieces, cousins, and very dear friends. Special thanks go to the staff and administration of the Elizabeth Scott Community for the exceptional attention and care they provided Virginia, at a place she happily called home for the past seven years. Appreciation also to Hospice of Northwest Ohio for the compassionate care and support they provided. Family and friends may visit at the W.K. Sujkowski & Son Funeral Home, 3838 Airport Hwy., on Monday, March 7, from 3pm - 7pm. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, March 8, at 11am at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Parish, where family will receive visitors beginning at 10am. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery. Memorial contributions in Virginia’s name can be made to the activities fund at Elizabeth Scott Community, Hospice of Northwest Ohio, or a charity of one’s choice.
