Vernon Hale (Tim) Birthisel was born in Casper, Wyoming, on March 4, 1928. Tim passed away peacefully on January 5, 2026, in Perrysburg, Ohio. He was 97 years old.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Patricia Birthisel; son, Thomas Birthisel; and parents, William and Thelma Birthisel. He is survived by his son, Timothy Birthisel (Sumac), and daughter, Susan Birthisel; five grandchildren, Megan Stewart (Jasen), Faren Jimenez (Monique), Mollie Birthisel, John Schmalzried (Ashley), and Jessica Pfleghaar (Jake); and two great-grandchildren, Raquelle Schmalzried and Josie Pfleghaar.
Tim and Patty were married in February of 1951. They were married for 71 years before Patty passed in 2022.
Tim served during the Korean conflict in the U.S. Army, then attended and graduated from Morris Harvey College in West Virginia. He was later employed in Toledo by Owens-Illinois as Personnel Manager.
He was active at the Perrysburg Boat Club, where he served as Commodore. Tim volunteered at the Toledo Zoo and Aquarium for over 20 years. He had a passion for caring for the animals and educating the public. Some of his hobbies included painting, stained glass, carving, carpentry, gardening, hunting, and fishing.
Tim was beloved by his family and friends. His life stands as an example of a faithful husband, a loving father and grandfather, and an active member of the community.
A memorial service will be held at First United Methodist Church, 200 W. 2nd Street, Perrysburg, Ohio, on Saturday, March 21, 2026. Visitation will be held at 10 a.m., with the memorial service to follow at 11 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to First United Methodist Church, Perrysburg, Ohio.
