Val Bowes, lifelong South Toledo resident, passed away Friday, November 5th in his home with family at his bedside after a recent short battle with cancer of the liver. He was born to Paul and Dorothy Bowes on December 2, 1949. Val was educated in Toledo Public Schools, graduating from Bowsher in 1967. He attended Ohio University, The University of Toledo and the UT Art School at the Toledo Museum of Art. He retired from Liberty Transportation following previous shipping logistics supervision with Air Ride and Coyne Textiles. Val was the ultimate informed news and sports fanatic with special allegiance to the Yankees, Steelers and Ohio State Buckeyes. As an accomplished fisherman and outdoorsman, he shared his passion with younger family members. His annual fishing trip to Indian River and Fletcher’s Pond, Michigan with his friends-for-life were personal highlights. Val was predeceased by his parents. Survivors to his life well lived are sister, Barbara (Lee) Irons of Holland, Ohio and brother, Barney (Linda) of Huntington, West Virginia. Remembrances of Val are shared and cherished by his large extended family and caring friends and neighbors. A Celebration of his life will be held locally.
