Tyler William Merritt, loving father, grandfather, brother, and uncle passed at the age of 62 on September 7, 2024. He had a heart of gold and will be missed dearly by all those who knew him.
Tyler was born in Fremont, Ohio on August 14, 1962, son of Robert & Brettie Merritt. He graduated from Gibsonburg High School. He later moved to Toledo with his former wife, Rebecca (Hood) Merritt. Together they had two sons, Clay Merritt of Port Clinton, OH and Dawson Merritt of Toledo, OH.
Tyler’s pride and joy was his sons. He was so proud of them and the men they’ve become. He enjoyed fishing with his boys, NASCAR, working on cars, hard rock music, and spending time with his family. He was a hardworking man who always made time to be a father. He would do anything for his family - whether that was helping with their cars or lending a listening ear. Above all, Tyler loved his granddaughters more than anything. Madelyn, his “sunshine,” and baby girl Lillian will always carry the love of their Pawpaw in their hearts.
Tyler will be lovingly remembered by his two sons, Clay (Meredith) Merritt and Dawson Merritt; two young granddaughters, Madelyn and Lillian Merritt; sister, Della (Rick) Billow; brother, Andy Merritt; and many beloved nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Brettie, and his siblings, Bobbie, Rodney, Bart, Bret, and Jeff.
Per Tyler’s wishes, he will be cremated with services provided by the Cremation Society of Toledo. A private memorial will be held with family.
