Tommie Elmer Hammack, Jr. ("Tom"), of Maumee, died at the Cleveland Clinic on Tuesday, April 28, 2026. He was 71 years old.
Tom was born to the late Tommie (Sr.) and Geraldine Hammack on August 24, 1954 in Knoxville, Tennessee. He married the first love of his life, Marti Hammack, on May 31, 1975 at the Bedford First Church of the Nazarene in Lambertville, Michigan. Together they shared 44 wonderful years of marriage until Marti's passing in 2019. Tom married the second love of his life, Celeste Conley, on May 28, 2023 at Redemption Church in Monclova, Ohio. Celeste and Tom shared nearly three years of life together, enjoying traveling, pickleball, pool volleyball with friends, and the love of their families. Tom's sons are grateful for the love that Celeste shared with Tom, and honor her relationship with him.
Tom was a kind and dedicated Registered Nurse, working in a variety of positions in critical care, psychiatric care, hospice care, and insurance administration throughout his career. He was active in his church, passionate about the work of the Lord and the growth and mission of Redemption Church in Monclova, Ohio. Tom enjoyed driving, biking, pickleball, trips to Tennessee, and loved to spend time with his family. He especially enjoyed time with his grandchildren.
A loving husband, father, brother-in-law, and Papaw, Tom's best role was as a servant of the Lord, a child of his Savior, the Most High King - Jesus Christ. Tom was a shepherd who impacted those around him: friends, family, and those he met in his everyday life. He was always prepared with a warm smile, a long story or two, and a skillet of cornbread. He will be missed.
Tom is survived by his wife, Celeste. He is also survived by the sons he had with Marti: Dan and Dave; his "favorite daughter-in-law" Tiffany, wife of Dave; grandchildren, David Jr. (Caitlin), Garret (Magan), Caleb, Jackson, and Lyna; close friends, Rex and Sylvia Branum; and a wonderful community of friends and fellow pickleball players, workout aficionados, and pool volleyball savants at the Waterside community in Maumee, Ohio.
A celebration of Tom's life will be held at Redemption Church in Monclova, Ohio on Saturday, May 23, 2026 at 10AM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Redemption Church, Samaritan's Purse, or World Vision.
