Thomas (Tom) Leroy Hall Sr. age 80, entered into eternal rest on Sunday, November 10, 2024, at Flower Hospital, Sylvania, Ohio, following a brief illness. Our beloved brother, grandpa, “grandpa-uncle Tom” and great-grandpa. Tom left this world surrounded by those who loved him dearly.
Tom was born April 11, 1944, in Indianapolis, In. to Claude and LaVada Hall. He attended Edward Drummond Libbey High School, after his family moved to Toledo, in 1954. He later joined the U.S. Army and deployed to Korea assigned to Headquarters, 2nd Missile Battalion, 20th Artillery, in the early 1960's, as a radio communications operator and security detail. Upon being honorably discharged, he began his career-long mission representing union workers at Champion Spark Plug, as the U.A.W. Union Rep, Vice President and U.A.W. Union Chairman. When Champion left their Toledo location, Tom worked at National Sweeper Service, from where he retired.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents; his older brother, Ross Hall; older sister, Jane Hall Reynolds; sister-in-law, Patty Hall; and brother-in-law, Denny Ankenbrandt Sr.
Mourning his loss are sons, Tom (Donna) Hall Jr. and Mike (Melanie) Hall; sisters, Carolyn Hall and Jenny Ankenbrandt; grandchildren, Tom (Amanda) Hall III, Courtney (Brandon) Becker and Brandon (Kristine) Hall. Also leaving behind are great-grandchildren, Addison, Gavin, Gracelyn, Karrah, Peyton, Zander, Maddie and Oaklyn; nieces and nephews, Sherri Hawkins, Jason (Penni) Hall, Lin (Hadeer) Reynolds, Chris (Stephanie) Hall, Beckie (Stephen) Hawks, Jamie Hanifan, Denny Ankenbrandt (Jaclyn) Jr., and Adam Ankenbrandt; great-nieces and nephews, Zach, Brennan, Bryson, Ben, Bailey, Jacob, Johnny, Cora and Sophia; brother-in-law, Charles Reynolds; fur-baby, Bella; and longtime friend, Tim McClain.
Tom was a lover of nature, often photographing sunsets, birds, wildlife and beautiful scenery at local parks. However, his true love and compassion was for the many orphaned animals that have been abandoned or mistreated. He often took in strays and cared for the homeless and starving cats that came and went through the years, providing shelter and food.
Celebration of Tom's life will be held from 1:00-5:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 30, 2024 at American Legion Post #468, 5580, Centennial Rd. Sylvania, Ohio 43560.
