Thomas Eyre died peacefully at McClaren St. Luke’s Hospital on Friday, November 5, 2021. Tom was born November 29, 1948, the third of five children born to Samuel and Phyllis (Goldie) Eyre. Tom attended Bowsher High School and after graduation admirably enlisted in the military. Tom proudly served his country in Vietnam. After returning home, he married his wife of 51 years, Barbara. Tom worked at Champion Spark Plug until they closed and after returning to school to earn a degree in Facilities Engineering, he went on to his second career in maintenance at Flower Hospital. Even after retiring from Flower, he continued to get together with his friends from work, or as he referred to them as, “The Usual Suspects”. During the summer months, you could almost always find him at a car show. His love of Fords, especially Mustangs, was one of his favorite indulgences. Tom was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel and Phyllis (Goldie), brother, Sammy and mother-in-law, Mary Ritz. Tom’s wife Barbara passed away just nine days after his own death. Surviving are daughters, Sherri (Howard), Julie, granddaughter, Katie (whom he affectionately referred to as “the rat”), sisters, Zippy (Sam), Janet (Jim) and Judy (Tim), several nieces and nephews, and constant canine companion Wylie. A celebration of life will be held for both Tom and Barb in the Spring of 2022. Graveside services will be private. Those wishing to honor Tom are encouraged to donate to The Wounded Warrior Project in his name.
