On Tuesday, February 23, 2021, Tom, age 72, passed away after a lengthy illness. Tom was a native Toledoan who graduated from Central Catholic High School (1966), and the University of Toledo (BA, 1970; MBA 1978). Tom served in the Army at Fort Dix, NJ, during the Vietnam War and was honorably discharged in 1976. Tom worked for a time as an Assistant Manager for Kmart stores then as a Purchasing Agent for Aro Corporation (now Ingersoll-Rand) in Bryan, OH. He was preceded in death by his parents Alex and Zophia (Sophie) Czarnecki, and his cousin John Czarnecki, and is survived by his many cousins, especially Jim (Carol) Kahl, Judy (Leonard) Polcyn and Sue Lyons, and his former wife, Judy Czarnecki who all assisted him during his illness. Tom greatly enjoyed reading, especially science fiction and mysteries, frequenting various craft breweries (especially Black Frog where he could be found almost every Saturday for a brew or two) and traveling. The last significant trip before his illness was when he completed the bourbon trail in Kentucky and one of his fondest memories was the trip to Germany in the 1980’s with dear friends Nancy and John Flannery. He also was a great animal lover and was especially fond of dogs. He would stop to pet any dog that crossed his path and was kind to the wildlife that frequently crossed his lawn. Tom will be sorely missed by all who knew him even for a short time. In honor of his wishes, there will be no public service. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his name may be made to the Toledo Humane Society or another animal welfare organization.
