Tammy Lou Theiss, a resident of Findlay, Ohio, left her earthly family and friends on Wednesday, February 22, 2023, at the age of 58. Reuniting with her father, James Edward Theiss, Sr., both sets of grandparents, her honorary sister Hope Hall, and other family members and friends who preceded her in death. Tammy Lou was given her middle name to honor her paternal grandmother Lucille (Arthur) Theiss. She was born and raised in Toledo, Ohio, and grew up the youngest of four children. Tammy locally attended Shoreland Elementary and then Whitmer High School, where she graduated in 1982 with a certification in Cosmetology.
For many years Tammy struggled with addiction, it changed her life, deprived her of her self-worth, and distanced her from those who loved her. We wish she had recognized the strength, energy and joy of life everyone else saw in her. If anyone reading this has addiction issues or loves someone who does, seek help. If it is not working, try something else. Do not yield to shame. Addiction is a disease and it is destroying our families.
Tammy never wanted to be defined only by her addiction, and those that knew and loved her will not do that. Tammy was always a "go getter". She was a very talented saleswoman who thoroughly enjoyed "the art of the sale”. Tammy loved nothing more than working one-on-one with the public, sharing laughs, sharing smiles, sharing hugs and even tears. She was always lifting a low spirit. Tammy was an empath with a kind word and a compassionate moment for anyone, anytime, anywhere. She never met a stranger. In this manner, Tammy always gave more to the world than she took. She loved to laugh and could bring lightness to any room. She loved travel and enjoyed opportunities to live in various different states over the course of her life. Tammy had a lifelong love of animals, particularly strays. Her beloved Bella was her constant companion for many years and is now being cared for by her good friend, Joe.
Tammy is survived by her mother, Elizabeth “Betty” Theiss (Nowaczyk); siblings, James Theiss, Jr., Karen LeCompte, and William “Bill” (Daniela Mihaescu) Theiss; nieces and nephews, James (Nicole) Theiss, III, Shannon (Robert Reynolds) Theiss, Asia (Carl) Denton, Michael (Jessica) Nash-Theiss; William Nash-Theiss, Katelyn (John Patridge) Theiss, Autumn (Cody Russeau) Nash-Theiss; great nieces and nephews, Tyler Kiefer, Ryan Dashkevicz, Jade Theiss, Hunter Theiss, Cheyenne Denton, Cameron Reynolds, Juliet Denton, Troy Denton, Dallas Simmons, Oliver Patridge, and Ryker Nash-Theiss,; as well as many special Aunts, Uncles, cousins and friends.
She was a loving daughter, sister, and friend. The world has lost another good one, another bright smile on dark, cloudy days. She was ours and we will miss her greatly.
A Celebration of her Life will be held at Trilby Shelter House (3125 Shawnee Road, Toledo, Oh) on Friday, March 24th, from 2 to 7 p.m. with a Memorial Service and memory sharing beginning at 3 p.m. Those wishing to donate in Tammy’s memory are asked to consider the Hancock County Humane Society (hancockhumanesociety.com) or Family Resource Center of Northwest Ohio, Inc.
