ALWAYS THE SPRING

Life has its seasons- its bright summer days,

Its autumn made poignant with memories’ haze,

Its cold, lonely winter where bitterness blows-

But always the crocus of Hope in the snow.

Always the day when morning breaks through

And clouds break away to the sky of blue.

Life has its seasons- its sun and its rain,

Its winter– but always the springtime again!

Susan VanWormer was born May 23, 1942 to Joseph and Harriet Jan in Toledo, Ohio. Growing up in West Toledo Sue was a fun loving big sister to her younger siblings making sure they had fun times dancing to American Bandstand or taking in downtown movies. She enjoyed a great social life with best friend, Carolyn “Cookie” (Puccetti) Gossett. Sue graduated from Central Catholic High School in 1960 and began her work and family life shortly thereafter. Her career entailed surgical scrub nurse at a local hospital, administrative assistant roles with Lucas County, medical assistant roles for several Doctors in the Lucas County area. Law was her passion so she sought employment with a local law firm until retirement in 2009. She will be deeply missed by family and friends.

Susan was preceded in death by father, Joseph Jan; mother, Harriet Jan; son, James J. Eaton Jr.; brother, Joseph M. Jan; and sister, Monica Kalbfleisch-Collins. Surviving are daughter, Angela (Ken) Crabtree; sister Claudia (Joe) Gast; brothers, Chris (Carla) Jan and Marty (Leslie) Jan; granddaughter, Alisha (Rocky) Proctor; step-grandsons, Trey (Natasha) and Kevin Crabtree and 6 great-randchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff at Arbors at Sylvania for their excellent care.

Mom loved telling stories about her family; some you would have to let your imagination decide. She loved doing crafts (Christmas ornaments and Easter eggs) with her grandchildren in their younger years. She loved ceramic clowns and painted her own pottery clowns. Halloween was her favorite holiday where she would make her own costumes. She was a collector of metal art and earrings made from natural stone that she would buy from various art fairs.

A celebration of life will be held at a later time.
