Obituary

Susan L. (Gaertner) Taylor passed away Thursday, August 20, 2026, at Otterbein of Perrysburg, after a brief illness, at the age of 85. She was born February 24, 1941, in Toledo, Ohio, to Karl and Pauline (Welling) Gaertner. On June 9, 1979, she married Richard H. Taylor, at the Toledo home of her parents. They lived their entire married life on their family farm near Curtice, Ohio.

Susan fulfilled many roles during her 85 years- daughter; granddaughter (George and Mary Hanely Welling and Adolf and Leda Morgan Gaertner); sister (George and John); sister-in-law (Sue and Pam); aunt; cousin; student (Sherman Elementary, Woodward High School- class of 1959, The University of Toledo- class of 1964); teacher (Fremont Junior High- German and Spanish 1964-1982 and Genoa Area Local Schools sub); wife; mother (David, Eric, and Kevin); grandmother (Adeline and Cora); mother-in-law (Jaime); daughter-in-law (Herman and Marjorie Taylor Taylor); cub scout den leader; and member- Fremont American Field Service, American Association of University Women, Genoa Federation, Business and Professional Women, Genoa Grange, Ottawa County Historical Society, retired teachers (Ottawa and Sandusky Counties), Delta Kappa Gamma, and First Unitarian Church.

Susan is survived by her husband Richard; sons, Eric and Kevin (Jaime) Taylor; granddaughters, Adeline and Cora Taylor; brother, George (Pamela) Gaertner and their children and grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; in-laws; infant son, David; and brother, John and his wife, Sue.

A celebration of life will be planned for a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be given to the charity of the donor’s choice or the Genoa Grange Scholarship Fund through the Genoa Area Local Schools Scholarship Foundation.
