On Monday, September 28, 2026, Susan Marie Haumesser Kosakowski became a treasured memory to all who loved her.
Outside of her deeply loved family, it was her husband—her "gentle giant" and "ride-or-die"—who blessed Sue with true love. She is now resting peacefully in the arms of her beloved Robert “Semi” Kosakowski. Surely, both are elated to be eternally reunited.
Sue found no greater joy than the love of family. The latest addition was born just the day before Sue suffered three heart attacks. Sue was in her absolute glory dotting over pictures of the new arrival—girl #16. This was her final happiness, filling her heart with joy until it stopped on the evening of the 24th, when she became non-responsive.
Neither time nor distance could ever fracture Sue's loyalty. She cherished multiple life-long friendships, which she so lovingly regarded as family. If you were one of her inner circle, your ringtone on her cell phone rang to “We are Family”—because to Sue, "BFF" meant exactly that.
God held a special spot for Sue, as she walked through life loving, giving, and caring for others in all ways, always.
Whether it was offering an ear to listen, a warm meal to eat, checking in on shut-ins, or delivering yummy banana bread and shares from her bountiful garden, that was simply who Sue was until she could no longer do so.
She was humorously entertaining, a great conversationalist, genuine, and completely down-to-earth. Big-hearted and kind to all, she was deeply compassionate toward others and their struggles. She loved listening to old-school rock 'n' roll—especially Bob Seger—and Motown tunes.
She also had a soft spot for animals, regularly feeding the neighborhood birds, squirrels, and stray cats. Whether two-legged or four, she looked out for everybody.
Defined mostly by her inner strength, Sue endured beyond most in life. She never allowed anyone to squelch the exuberant, positive energy she carried with her. Her finest qualities never faltered: honesty, loyalty, positivity, and deep faith. She possessed a colorful personality and a vibrant spirit to match, which was beautifully reflected in her attire—she regularly adorned herself in her favorite tie-dyed shirts.
Sue always greeted the world with a huge smile, a deep voice, and an unforgettable laugh. Was she opinionated? Yes, aren’t we all? Was she generally right? Yes! But she truly got it right in the kitchen. Sue could cook from a very young age, creating incredible home-cooked meals incorporating fresh vegetables and herbs from the massive garden that once took up a great portion of her yard.
Sue is survived by her mother, Zuella (Meek) Czerniak; her sisters, Sharon (Don) Stump and Jackie Mohr; her brother, Edwin (Shelly) Czerniak; and her in-laws, Jim (Joyce) Kosakowski.
She leaves behind her cherished nieces and nephews, Chad Detrick, Bre (Mike) Johnson, Nikki (Ty) Wallace, Josh (Kara) Stump, Zach Smith, Taylor Smith, Adison Czerniak, Maci Czerniak, Josh (Megan) Kosakowski, and Brian (Mandy) Kosakowski; as well as 19 great-nieces and great-nephews. Susie daily helped her sisters with childcare until the children were school-aged; she loved every single moment, leaving cherished memories planted in her heart forever.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Marlene Mars (Michael) Smith; her brother, Doug Haumesser; her father, Daniel Haumesser Jr.; her stepfather, Edwin Czerniak; and her grandparents, Harry W. & Ruth L. Meek, and Daniel & Laura Haumesser. She is also reunited with many aunts, uncles, and dear friends who were there to greet her in heaven.
Her passing leaves a profound void in the hearts of hundreds of us. As a family, we are deeply touched by everyone who has reached out; your kind words are a true testament to her incredible character.
Should you want to join us in honoring her, a Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, October 11, 2026, from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM (fittingly on Bob’s birthday) at Catholic War Veterans (CWV) Post 5919, 5919 Teletowne Dr. (at Telegraph & Alexis) Toledo, Ohio
As her friends, let’s gather together as family one last time. For Sue!
The family wishes to extend a special, heartfelt thanks to neighbors Maria and Rick for always having Sue’s back. Thank you for cutting her grass, trimming bushes, handling the trash and recycling, and helping plant her many gardens when she no longer could. Thank you for the home-cooked meals, the medication runs, and carting groceries into her house. Thank you for feeding her cats during her hospital and rehab stays, and for checking in on her daily—sometimes at 11:00 PM—for years. You both went above and beyond, caring for Sue like family. We are forever grateful for your incredible kindness. You truly are the best. Sue not only considered you Maria as her best friend, but family to her. Just like another seater of hers!
