Steven D. Burrell

April 29, 1956 — January 23, 2019

Steven D. Burrell, born to Donald and Patricia Burrell on April 29, 1956, died Jan 23, 2019 after a short illness. He graduated from Northwood High School and married Carolyn (Ignasiak) Burrell. Together, they resided in Point Place for the most important times of their lives. At the time of his death, Steve was employed at PlyGem in Northwood, where he had worked since 2007 in their parts department. Additionally, he worked in area management at various manufacturing companies, notably Lear and GNC, with wide experience in warehouse supervision. Steve loved music. He was proud of his collection of over 700 CDs. He also drummed in a local rock band for 25 years, still playing through the months leading up to his death. His earliest connection with Lake Erie began with his grandfather on Ottawa River, who instilled a love of boating and fishing in him from a very young age. Beyond a simple love for the water, Steve was an encyclopedia when it came to boat design, operation, and engine mechanics. He spent many summer days and nights regaling his best-loved friends at Meinkes Marina. A brilliant storyteller with a story for every occasion, he was also an uncanny impressionist, a skill few people knew about, mimicking the voices of friends and celebrities alike. Steve had an extensive knowledge of American military history, especially World Wars I and II and the American Civil, with an ability to recall arcane details of military battles and equipment with amazing accuracy. In all this, Steve was at heart and in life a simple man, generous to a fault, yet could make a critical turn when you would least expect it. Survivors include his wife Carolyn; sons, Steven, Jr., Matthew (Rachel); step grandson, Caleb; stepsons, Joshua and Lucas Ignasiak; brothers, Barry and Chuck Reau; aunts, Darlene Schings and Joan Ferris; many extended cousins; and his furry Dachshund companions, Oscar and Cinnamon. His father and mother preceded him in death. To celebrate Steves life, a memorial service will be held at Cooley Canal Yacht Club Saturday, April 6 from 11 am to 3 pm. Donations can be made to Hospice of Northwest Ohio.
