Stephen Schrickel

September 13, 1950 — February 7, 2025

Stephen "Steve" Howard Schrickel, 74, of Oregon Ohio passed away peacefully on February 7, 2025 at Hospice of NW Ohio with his family by his side. Born on September 13, 1950 in Fremont Ohio to Howard and Marcella (Horn) Schrickel. Growing up, Steve liked riding his bike to the Sandusky River to fish, taking family vacations, and spending time with his friends.

Steve graduated high school from Fremont St. Joe’s in 1968. After graduation, Steve attended Bowling Green State University. He graduated from BGSU in 1972 with a Bachelor's degree in Business Accounting.

Steve married the love of his life, Mary (Fisher) Schrickel in 1972. They had three children in Fremont Ohio before moving to Laurinburg NC for work in 1984. They returned to NW Ohio in 1995. In North Carolina, the family enjoyed camping at Morrow Mountain State Park. While camping, Steve loved conversations around the campfire, swimming, hunting for morel mushrooms, playing frisbee, and hiking.

Steve had a lifelong love of fishing, gardening, and playing games. He always joked that his favorite game was “take a nap,” however it's known that his favorite game truly was Bridge. He genuinely enjoyed teaching his children and friends how to play. In later years, he played Bridge twice a week at the Maumee Senior Center. He also enjoyed playing the game of Hearts with his family, going so far as to keep a log of the wins for every family member each year and letting you know that he had the “most wins in the book”. During the summer you could find the family in the backyard playing croquet.

Steve loved being a grandparent to his five grandchildren. He loved teaching them to fish, garden, and play games. When at his house, he only had one rule for his grandkids, “nobody gets hurt”.

Steve was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Kathy (Schrickel) Kanyuh. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Mary; children, Sherri (David) Meyer of Findlay, Sarah (Kevin) Mauric of Perrysburg and Joseph (Jennifer) Schrickel of Perrysburg; grandchildren, Eva, Kathryn, Grace, AJ, and Lillian; brothers, Mark (Lisa) and Tom (Shelly) and many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life will be held on a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Hospice of Northwest Ohio (Perrysburg) or a charitable organization of your choice.
