Stephen Frank Majer of Toledo, Ohio passed peacefully on February 28, 2025, at NWO Hospice Toledo. Steve was born November 2, 1955. His proud parents were Nancy (Simon) Majer and Andrew "Andy" Majer. The family continued to grow with a sister Jayne Majer and a brother Mark Majer.
Steve attended St. Thomas Aquinas Elementary School and Raymer Elementary. He graduated from Macomber Vocational High School in 1974. That class just celebrated their 50th anniversary. Steve had lifelong friends from each of the schools, who have filled his wife in on his younger years.
Steve met his wife, Patricia "Patti or Pat" Patterson at a Mid America Youth Ministers Conference at St. Mary's College in South Bend, IN in 1979. Patti was from Des Moines, lA. After many phone calls and letters and a few visits back and forth; Patti moved to Toledo in August 1980. They were married in July 1981 in Des Moines IA. They were blessed with a son, Andrew "Drew" Majer, in May 1984 and a daughter, Bridget Majer, in August of 1986.
Preceding Steve to their heavenly rewards were both parents and his sister. Those remaining, to tell Steve's stories, his wife of 43 years Patti; children, Andrew, Bridget (Sean Wilson) Majer; grandkids, Clayton, Parker, and Kierston; and brother Mark. Steve loved attending games, matches, and performances to see his grandkids grow and shine.
Steve had worked as a bus driver over the years for Lucas County MRDD, Toledo Public Schools, and summers for Lake Front Charter. He worked for Parkview Hospital, as an orderly, on the Med. Surg. Floor and in Surgery. After Parkview closed, he went to work for TPS and held positions of bus driver, miscellaneous labor, hall monitor, and building maintenance until he went on disability/retirement in 2005.
Steve kept busy over the years with Boy Scouts of America (as a scout and an adult advisor), Teens Encounter Christ (Carey TEC, Lutheran TEC, and The National TEC Conference), Exercise in Christian Living, Cursillo. He was also a very proud member of the Knights of Columbus belonging initially to Our Lady of Fatima Council-East Toledo, followed by St. Jerome Council - Walbridge. He was a Fourth-Degree member of the K of C with Monsignor Yates Assembly. He began his volunteering at Central Catholic during football half time performances. He thoroughly enjoyed being the "Voice of the Band" for the Marching Irish. The joy continued when he became the "gate keeper" during football season and while working the pass gate at athletic events in the Sullivan Center from the time his kids graduated until he went into the hospital in January.
Musically, Steve never stopped playing. He was in marching band in Macomber and was the "Toy Maker" in Macomber/Whitney's production of Babes in Toyland. He marched with the Glassmen Drum Corp where he played contrabass bugle (a large horn carried on the shoulder). He played guitar for many retreats. He played trumpet and fugle horn. He joined the Polish American Concert Band over 30 years ago and played in the Fall/ Winter Concert in November. He played with The Owens Community Concert Band - they are a small but mighty group looking for members. He also played with the Genoa American Legion Band around NW Ohio at festivals, parades, Memorial Day services and his favorite, the receptions for the HONOR FLIGHT veterans. He even got a gig or two in with the
"Swingsters." His piano, organ and keyboard skills found him in many churches and the Ursaline retirement home. He played weddings, funerals, and masses. If a group of musicians gathered and started a jam session and Steve did not have an instrument, he would grab a pair of spoons and play spoons.
HE HAD A GOOD LIFE! To send him off "to that heavenly place"

Many have asked if there is anything they can do.
Bring a dish or dessert, musicians bring your instrument (maybe, some music too)
Everyone bring your voice for stories and songs. If you think you can't sing, you get to sing with me because, Steve always said, I sang in my own key. They also say, if you're not singing melody, you are singing harmony!
Thank you! See you soon! Patti P.S. Snowbirds, I'll catch you in the summer.
