Shirley M. Nelson

March 18, 1950 — January 14, 2026

Northwood

Shirley Marie Nelson, age 75, of Northwood, Ohio, passed away at the Gardens of St. Francis in Oregon. Shirley was born on March 18, 1950 in Toledo, Ohio, to the late William Richard Weist and Marie Irene (Adams) Weist.

Raised in Northwood, Shirley attended Lark Elementary School and Northwood High School. Later in life, she proudly earned her GED and continued her education at Owens Community College, where she received her Associate’s Degree in Criminal Justice—an achievement that reflected her determination and strength.

Shirley was known for her hardworking spirit and kind heart. She spent 35 years as a waitress at Manos, where she built lasting connections and was a familiar, welcoming face to countless customers through the years.

Shirley enjoyed the simple joys that made life meaningful—listening to country music, attending concerts, watching westerns, browsing flea markets where she would find rooster-themed items to add to her collection! Above all, she cherished time spent with her family, especially her beloved granddaughter, Jazmine.

Shirley is survived by her children, Tracy William Nelson; several grandchildren, including Jazmine Ingram and Michael Gilbreith; her siblings, Nancy Leigh Dycus, Wilma Irene Mason (Jeffrey Lynn Santia), and Gail Sandra Weist; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

She was preceded in death by her son, Shawn Duane Nelson; daughters, Shannon Marie Nelson and Amber Nicole Ingram; and significant other, David George Salsgiver.

Shirley will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew her.
