Sherry Lynn Kelley

January 19, 1942 — March 10, 2020

Sherry Lynn Kelley, 78 of Genesis Village in Toledo OH passed away on Tuesday March 10th 2020 in her home. Sherry was born in Louisville KY January 19, 1942 to Alvin and Henrietta (Cole) Morton.  She lived in Los Angeles CA as a young woman where she met her husband Allen Kelley.  They were married in 1958.  They were blessed at a young age with 3 children: Michael, Debbie and Frank.  When the children were young, they moved to Al’s hometown of Detroit MI and eventually to Northwest Ohio where the children graduated high school.  Sherry always worked very hard in the home and outside of the home to help provide for the family. Shortly after Al’s passing in 1997 when she should have been looking forward to retirement, she without hesitation took in her 2-year-old twin granddaughters Ashley and Mariah to raise on her own.  Eventually she was able to retire and move in with her daughter and son in law in Maumee OH to raise the girls.  She sacrificed everything to take care of and provide for the girls and was active in their education and was proud to see both graduate from High School.  Her granddaughter Jennifer who lived in Kansas came every year for the Christmas Holiday with her Dad and she so looked forward to spending that precious time with her, including witnessing her marriage to Kodi this past year.  She was also very active with her first Granddaughter Ilyana as a child having her in her home many weekends and holidays, and a lifelong memory of taking her on a trip to California to meet family and visit Disney. Sherry was proud to welcome her first great grandchildren to the world and helped Ilyana with caring for them when they were infants. After the girls were raised and her work was done, she was able to move into Genesis Village in Toledo and quickly became active in that retirement community.  She prided herself in knowing everyone by name and helped countless residents with their needs that she was able to help with. She also cared for all the live plants in the building and fed the fish in the aquarium up until her last day. She always had a jigsaw puzzle going in the common area and the residents looked forward to seeing her work and she eventually ended up framing and selling the puzzles that decorate the halls of Genesis and many of the resident’s apartments. She blessed her grandchildren and great grandchildren with a framed puzzle that had special meaning last Christmas. Sherry was preceded in death by her husband Al and most recently her oldest Son Michael and Sister in law Lydia. She is survived by her Daughter Debbie (John) Eding of Maumee OH, her son Frank (Paula) of Toledo, Daughter in law Yong Kelley and her Granddaughter’s Ilyana (Brandt Wimmer) Martens of Toledo, Jennifer (Kodi) Comstock of Salina KS, Ashley Hanicq of Elyria OH and Mariah (Michael Wilson-Edens) Hanicq of Toledo.  Great Grandchildren Rylee, Jaceylin, Zayza, Bryce and Keldryc Martens, Aubry and Brantley Hanicq, and Aries Wilson-Edens. Her Sister Sandy (Robert) Rodriguez and her family in Los Angeles and Nephews Wayne and Terry Swindlehurst and their families. Per her wishes she was cremated, and a memorial service will be planned at Genesis Village at a later date.
