Scott Muir

May 9, 1959 — October 10, 2025

Maumee, Ohio

Scott Douglas Muir - also known as D. Scott Muir and lovingly called Scotty - was called home to Heaven on October 10, 2025, surrounded by love and care at Hospice of Northwest Ohio. Born on May 9, 1955, to Ruth (Muir) Shaffer and Jack Muir, he grew up in Perrysburg, Ohio, surrounded by family and friendships that shaped the kind, determined man he became. Scotty was known for his tender heart and strong-willed spirit.

On Valentine's Day in 1986, during a winter blizzard filled with both obstacles and laughter, Scott married the love of his life, Laurie Smietanski. What began as a wedding full of "hiccups" became the foundation for their 39-year marriage-one built on humor, resilience, and an unshakable "we got this" attitude that carried them through life's ups and downs together.

Scotty had a personality as big as his heart. Equal parts serious and funny, he could light up a room with his wit and antics. A natural manager and mentor, he was never shy about sharing advice, and his conversations-whether with friends or strangers-almost always ended in laughter. He carried deep compassion for those who were struggling and often found quiet, thoughtful ways to help others behind the scenes.

His greatest joy in life was his family. Left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife of 39 years, Laurie; his sons, Chase (Kim McPherson Muir) and Josh (Jessica Eileen); and four granddaughters who lit up his world-Brooklynn, Josie, Lucy, and Maggie. He is also survived by his sister and Saturday morning coffee buddy, Cris (John) White; and his brother, Tim Muir. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jack Muir and Ruth (Muir) Shaffer; his brother, Mark Muir; and his in-laws, Dick and Marie Smietanski.

Family and friends are invited to a Celebration of Life on Sunday, October 26, 2025, at Brandywine Country Club, 6904 Salisbury Road, Maumee, OH 43537 from 12–4 p.m. A private interment will take place at a later date.

Scotty will be remembered for his laughter, his steadfast love, and his ability to find humor in life's everyday moments. To know him was to love him, and his legacy lives on through the family he cherished and the countless lives he touched. In Scotty's famous parting words: "Let's wrap it up, Laurie!"
