Sara Jean Shanahan, 52 of Fremont, passed away at home February 18th, wrapped in her husband's loving arms. Born September 26, 1973, she was the youngest daughter of the late Jim and Dorothy Neiling. She graduated from St. Joe Central Catholic in 1991.
She was a devoted member of Fremont Baptist Temple. She truly had a servant's heart and was always quick to lend a hand. She loved serving in practical ways, jumping in where needed, her hands often deep in a sink of dirty dishes. She had a giving, generous heart and a gift for gab and never knew a stranger. She was always the life of every party, her loud, boisterous laugh filling every room.
She loved sharing her faith with others and giving her testimony. Giving her heart to Jesus radically transformed her life. She loved reading and studying her Bible, often journaling her prayers. She was an intercessor and prayer warrior. She loved crocheting, gardening, canning and tending her plants and chickens.
She was most recently employed as a registrar at Magruder Hospital. Her jobs reflected her life mission to serve and care for others. She was previously employed by Fremont Middle School as a paraprofessional and Stein Hospice and Memorial Hospital as a nurse's aide. She provided care and support to many individuals, demonstrating warmth and compassion in her interactions.
The joy of her life was her family. She was often found courtside, cheering on her girls' basketball and volleyball teams. She married the love of her life, Pat Shanahan, on June 4th, 2003, and he survives. Left to cherish her memory are her children, Paul Shanahan, Josh Shanahan (Brittney), Melissa (Paul Moore) Shanahan, and twins Lena and Leona Shanahan. Sara was the youngest sister of Pete (Lori) Neiling, Dave (Winnie) Neiling, Steve (Sheryl) Neiling, Joe Neiling and Andra (Vic) Josifov and Marje Trevino, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Her grandchildren Aryana, Elyana, Emberleigh and James were the light of her life.
Funeral service will be held March 7th, 2026, at 11 AM at Fremont Baptist Temple, 1150 S. County Road 198, Fremont, OH 43420 with Pastor Rick Ash presiding. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the family.
