A Black Rose has fallen! Sandra Mae Driver Davis (affectionally known as Sandy) was called home unexpectedly on Tuesday June 8th, 2021 at SKLD Point Place. Sandy was born on October 16th, 1945 in Toledo Ohio to William and Theone (Wolfe) Driver. The younger of her twin brother Andy, Sandy had a beautiful heart and a passion for helping others. She attended Toledo Public schools and graduated from Libbey High School in 1964. While still attending high school, she walked over the high-level bridge to work atFrisch’s Big Boy and then volunteered at The Salvation Army where she was a Proud member. Sandy had a love for skating which is where she met the Love of her life Roy Davis. Sandy married Roy a single father of 8 on October 31st, 1967 and from this union 2 children were born,Dawn Michelle and Robert Rico the loves of her life. This blended family faced many obstacles. Sandy was nervous but eager and determined to be a good mother to her instant family. With their Faith in God and Love for each an unbreakable bond was formed and she became one of the Matriarchs of our family. Sandy was a homemaker but not the normal kind. She was up at the crack of dawn daily cooking breakfast, preparing our lunches and of course seeing her husband off to work. He never missed a day and neither did she. Sandy was a smart and intelligent woman. She tutored family members along with their friends. She went back to school at Comtec (University of Toledo) and even worked at Dohler Jarvis for a stint but realized her family needed her more. She started providing daycare for her extended family and friends and was often seen with at least 5 kids in tow of all races and ages. She even found time to start a business “The Black Roses” with her dear friend Prudence Hicks. Sandy was by trade a professional seamstress. She made numerous dresses for Debutant Cotillions, Weddings (she was known for her hand beading) clothing for family and friends, she reupholstered cars and furniture and made the dance outfits for the Macomber Drill Team in 1981. She could make anything with that sewing machine. No pattern needed. In her spare time, she loved to knit, crochet, play Yahtzee, Solitaire, Uno, Phase 10 and build her legendary puzzles. Most of all she loved US her FAMILY!! After a decline in her health all family members stepped in to help wherever was needed. Her granddaughter Shaniqua took the responsibility and moved her in to her home to take care of her. The home and family that her and Daddy Roy built and raised their family in at 122 Batavia was a safe haven for all. She never turned anyone away. If you needed a meal (Tuna Casserole), a place to stay or just someone to talk to she was always there for any and everyone. She was one of the Matriarchs of our family and will be deeply missed by all who had the pleasure and opportunity to meet, know and love her.
