Ruth B. McMillan, age 90, passed away surrounded by her family on Wednesday, October 8, 2008 at Heatherdowns Rehabilitation and Residential Care Center. Ruth was born on December 21, 1917 to Dewey and Kathryn (Nevin) Blanchard of Toledo, Ohio.Ruth retired from the Toledo Board of Education after 30 years as a teacher and librarian. She was a graduate of Mary Manse College and obtained her Masters Degree in Library Science from Rosary College in Chicago. She devoted her life to rearing her five children, inspiring them with her perseverance, courage, and steadfast values. Ruth met lifes challenges with a cheerful disposition and a great sense of humor. Her children and her God meant more to her than anything in life.Ruth is survived by three daughters: Kathy Connelly of Toledo, Janet (Mickey) Klocinski of Maumee, and Susan McMillan Waxler of Toledo; a son, Jack (Debbie) McMillan of Chardon, Ohio; and daughter-in-law, Mary Jo McMillan of West Bloomfield, Michigan. She is also survived by ten grandchildren: Bill (Carrie) Connelly Jr., Bridget Connelly Ljungholm, Kristen (Arturo) Connelly Polizzi, Karen (John) Connelly Yerman, Jennifer Klocinski (fianc Jeff Lerner), Kristin (Howard) Klocinski Wood, Max (Becky) McMillan, Molly (Steve) McMillan Bodnar, Nicholas McMillan, and Lisa (Shawn) Waxler McCabe. Other survivors include; nineteen great-grandchildren: Karis Connelly; Tighe, Hanna, Anders Ljungholm; Teagan, Kate, Nico Polizzi; Tucker, Ragan, Tatum, Gracyn Yerman; Olivia and Grace Wood; Violet McMillan; Nathaniel, Benjamin, Alexander Bodnar; Jacob and Jessica McCabe; and one brother, Dewey F. Blanchard of Toledo. Ms. McMillan was preceded in death by her parents, son Michael, granddaughter Molly Jo McMillan, sister and brother-in-law Jane and Dick Blanchard, special cousin Fr. John Blanchard, nephews Joe and Billy Blanchard, and lifetime friends Mary Hartsfield, Rita Mercurio, and Dee Wannemaker. Ruth will be lovingly missed by all who knew her. The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to the caring staff at Heatherdowns Nursing, Hospice of Northwest Ohio, and Dena and Linda from Heritage House. A Memorial Mass will be held at Our Lady of Lourdes, date and time to be announced.The family has entrusted the Cremation Society of Toledo with arrangements.
