Obituary

Ruby Lorene Thompson passed away peacefully on June 13, 2026, surrounded by family, at the age of 85, leaving behind a legacy of faith, love, and compassion that touched the lives of all who knew her.

Born in Las Vegas, New Mexico, Ruby's life was one of devotion to family, hard work, and caring for others. She married the love of her life, Obey "Dobey" Dwayne Thompson, and together they built a life centered on faith, family, and a shared love of the simple blessings found in home and nature.

Ruby and Dobey spent several years in Crosby, Texas, where she worked for TNT Shipping Company in Houston before retiring. After retirement, they returned to Dexter, New Mexico, where they spent more than twenty years tending their land and opening their hearts and home to the many children and fur babies that found their way to their home. Ruby had a special gift for nurturing all living things. She delighted in gardening and growing beautiful flowers, especially her beloved passion flowers. After living in Roswell, New Mexico, Ruby moved to be with her son Farrell and his wife Monique in Perrysburg, Ohio.

Her faith was an important part of her life, and she cherished the loving fellowship and friendships she enjoyed through her church family at Midway Baptist Church. She especially enjoyed her time as a Sunday school teacher and remained close to all she taught.

Ruby was preceded in death by her husband, Obey; her sisters, Rita Thompson and Treesa McDaniel; her brother, Willie Crowson; her daughters, Laurie Thompson and Robin King, and her beloved grandchildren, Justin Craft and Lorene Craft.

She leaves behind to cherish her memory her son, Farrell Thompson and his wife, Monique; adopted son, Dylan Thompson and his wife, Raelyn; nephews, Jim Thompson and his wife, Michelle, Tommy Thompson and his wife, Hannah; nieces, Patty Chapin, Luana Hise and her husband, Randy, Shannon Roberts and Danyel Cox; grandchildren, Ruby Thompson, Madison Crawford, Samantha Crawford, Sara Martinez (and her husband, Ismael), Jennifer Craft, Larry Dale King, Matthew King, and Dwayne King; her great-grandchildren, Gabriel Nail, Annalese Nail, Ricky Vaillant, Junior Martinez, Bryson Martinez, and Camilla Martinez; great-great grandchildren, Aella Rose Guillen-Nail; her twin sister, Marelly Luna Guillen-Nail. She is also survived by numerous extended family members and dear friends whose lives were blessed by her kindness and unwavering love.

Ruby will be remembered for her gentle spirit, her steadfast faith, her love of flowers and animals, and the warmth she brought to everyone around her. Though she will be deeply missed, her family finds comfort in knowing that her legacy of love, compassion, and devotion will continue to bloom in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held in Roswell, New Mexico, at 10:00 am on Friday, July 10, 2026, at Midway Baptist Church of New Mexico located at 134 Yakima Road, Dexter, NM 88230.
