Rory Hand

Rory Robert Hand, age 67, passed away on November 4, 2023, at Toledo Hospital, after a courageous battle with cancer. Rory was born on October 31, 1956, in Toledo, Ohio, the son of Robert and Sharon (Everett) Hand. He was a 1975 graduate of Rogers High School and attended technical schools for electrician, HVAC and refrigeration, earning his electricians license. He used these skills while working for Toledo Hospital for 49 years, until his retirement. Rory was a jack of all trades and could fix anything. One of his many passions was fishing, especially if it was with the boys. Boating was another favorite passion. Rory was a member of Bay View Yacht Club, since 1999, where he met many of his good friends. Other passions include “whippin’ up” burgers and chicken on the grill, spending time with family, golfing, and traveling with his wife, children, and friends. Rory met his wife Cheri (Vaughan) in 1998, then married in 2000, thus combining their two families into one. Rory could be found at home with the Buckeyes on, with the boys, on the lake, at the boat, or at Brian’s, if he passed by and the garage was open.

Rory is survived by Cheri, his wife of 23 love and laughter filled years; children, Rachael (Drew)Tenney, Liz Lauffer, Careigh (Toby) Flemming, and Ethan (Katie) Lauffer; grandchildren, Caliber and Cadence Tenney, Leo Flemming and Sienna Lauffer; mother, Sharon Hand; sister, Kathy Carr; brother, Mike (Sarah) Hand; uncle Dave (Val) Everett; mother-in-law, Patti Vaughan; a long list of wonderful cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. Rory was preceded in death by his father, Robert Hand, brother, Randy Hand, and his two best four-legged friends, Gunner and Cooper.

A short service will be held on November 26, 2023, at 2:00pm, followed by a celebration of life, at Bay View Yacht Club, 3902 North Summit Street, Toledo, Ohio.

In honor of Rory’s helpful personality, he asked that any donations can be made to St. Jude or The American Cancer Society, in his memory.
