Ronald K. Walker

Ronald Keith Walker, age 71, passed away peacefully on October 19, 2023 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio.

Ron was born in Champaigne/Urbana, IL on July 5, 1952, to the late Paul and Mildred (Wininger) Walker. Ron grew up in Elkhart, Indiana, where he graduated from Elkhart High School in 1970. He was then in several different bands in the late 60’s and early 70’s, which were Elements of Rock and N.O.Y.B – Cantaloupe Island.

Rona started his long career on the railroad as a locomotive engineer, on the E.J. & E. in 1970 and retired from Northfolk Southern Railroad in 2016.

He enjoyed his Chicago Cubs, Chicago Bears, and the Fighting Irish from Notre Dame. He loved all things music, strumming his guitar, going out with Dawn and their close friends, and most of all, playing with and entertaining his grandkids.

Ron was married in 1971 to Susan (Mann) Walker. Together they had four children: Laura (Mark) Yoder of Elkhart, IN, Lisa (Micah) Wright of Elkhart, IN, Paul (Sara) Walker of Goshen, IN, and Sarah (Stacey) Walker-Hostetter of Wakarusa, IN.

Ron is survived by his wife, Dawn (Bomeli) Walker, married March 9, 1998. Together they have three children: Nichole Steiner of Toledo, OH, Miranda Walker of Toledo, OH and Riley Walker of Toledo, OH.

He is also survived by his sisters, Marsha Walker and Penny (Glen) Hershberger and brothers, Gary (Toni) Walker and Mike (Diane) Walker. He was also a Papa to 12 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.

Ron was preceded in death by his stepfather, Robert Walker and his brother, Larry Walker.

A Celebration of Ron’s Life will be held at the Toledo Country Club, 3949 River Road, Toledo, OH 43614 on Saturday, November 11, 2023 from 4:00 pm – 7:00 pm.

Memorial contributions may be sent to Hospice of Northwest Ohio, who cared over Ron and his family with compassion and dignity.
