Ronald "Ron" Swartz, 88, of Toledo, Ohio died January 19th at Hospice of Northwest Ohio (Toledo). For the last 7 months, Ron waged a determined fight against lung cancer, stubborn, ornery, charming, and more worried about his family than himself til the very end. He was born to Edmund and Harriet (Lubinski) Swartz on September 8th, 1932. He attended St Charles Catholic School and Libby High School. Ron was a jack of all trades and could fix almost anything. He worked in construction for over 50 years as an operating engineer, mainly as a crane operator for Lloyd Weaver Excavating. During retirement, he also worked for JMB Construction. He loved auto racing, following NASCAR and building and wrenching on sprint cars. Most notably, the Lloyd Weaver owned USAC Sprint car champion. Ron was a lifetime member of the Maumee BG Elks where he was a Past Exalted Ruler (1987-88) and Elk of the Year (2001-02). With his wife Joan they made numerous trips including Rome, Italy, Hawaii, and multiple cruises. Their love of golf led them to spend the winter months in Sebring, Florida for 22 years. Ron is survived by his loving wife, Zola "Joan" Swartz; daughters, Terrie (Scott) Pope and Cindy (Bill) Bailey; his four grandchildren, Brady and Shelby Pope and Will and Jason Bailey and seven great-grandchildren; his brother, Joe Swartz also survives. He was predeceased by his parents and siblings, Jane "Toots" Prosser, Rita Burzynski, Lucy Ward and Edwin "Butch" Swartz. Per his request, there will be no visitation or services. The family would like to thank Hospice of Northwest Ohio for their wonderful care and support and request that any donations be made to them.
