Loving grandfather of Bobby Hecht (Kayla), Eric Mitchell, Brittany Rudd (Alex), Emily Loudenslager (Steve), Elisabeth Reynoso (Donovan), Esther Cox (Jared), Nicholas Tracey (Alexander), Mikayla Pandrea, Chloe Cliché', and Carleigh Cliché'. Cherished great grandfather of Carter, Miles, Maddox, and Karly. Surviving also are his sisters, Daria Rakowsky (Tom), Oksana Diasczun (Ihor), and Irene Petryna.

Roman was born in Neumarkt, Germany, in 1947 and moved to the United States when he was a child becoming a citizen when he turned 7 years old. He also spent time in a concentration camp before moving to the United States with his family.

He graduated from John Carroll University with a Bachelor of Arts in 1970. Roman started The R.M. Pawnyk Corporation in 1981, a consulting firm specializing in business resiliency and cybersecurity. He served as an Auxiliary Policeman in Parma, Ohio, for years.

Roman loved hanging out with his wife, Marty's, large family, aka "The Stropko Clan", and they made many trips to the Amish Country and various adventures in Ohio and Michigan. For many years Roman and Marty enjoyed permanent camping at Charles Mills Lake during the summer months.

Roman had moved to Toledo, Ohio, just a little over two years ago. He spent the first year selflessly caring for Marty, who was diagnosed with lung cancer until her passing in February of 2025. He attended Bedford Alliance Church where he met many friends and had quite the social life. He enjoyed spending time with his family and grandkids as well. He will be missed by his family and friends.

The family would like to thank the neurology ICU nurses and physicians at Toledo Hospital for their wonderful care.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at Bedford Alliance Church (8645 Jackman Rd, Temperance, Michigan) on Saturday, April 25th, 2026 at 11 am. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Roman's name to St. Jude Research Hospital (501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105)
