Roland Walter Weimer, 77, of Whitehouse, Ohio passed away peacefully on May 19th. He was born July 19, 1945 in Waterville Township to Walter and Ivadell Weimer (Scott).
He is survived by his three children, Brett Weimer (Morgan), Kevin Weimer, and Anne Palmer (Chris). He is further survived by his three grandchildren, Jackson, Grant and Chase Palmer, and his brother, Robert Weimer (Patsy) and sister-in-law, Betty Weimer (Richard).
He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter & Ivadell Weimer and his brother, Richard Weimer.
Rollie, as he was known, was born and raised on the family farm. He graduated Anthony Wayne High School in 1963 where he played football and met his former wife Barbara Zimmerman (Boyer) and they married in 1965. They had three children together and helped design and build their first new home on Schadel Road. He was active in his children’s lives and a Boy Scout leader in Troop 97. He was very proud of his children, their accomplishments, and the adults that they had become.
Following high school Rollie started his apprenticeship and became a Journeyman Plumber and Pipefitter with Local 50. He enjoyed a 45-year career with well-known local construction firms like Armstrong Mechanical Services and Cambell Incorporated. At the end of his career, he was part of the management team for many large construction projects throughout NW Ohio. One of his favorite memories was helping to build Centennial Hall (Savage Arena) at the University of Toledo.
Rollie was a lifetime member of the Whitehouse Progressive Fisherman’s Association where he served in various capacities over the years. For many years you could find him helping at the Friday night fish fries and the target shooting range. Rollie was a member of Rock Solid Church of God in Kansas, Ohio which he attended with his girlfriend Janet Sleek.
Rollie had an engineer’s mind and could fix almost anything. He was able to figure out how something worked, tear it apart and put it back together again better than new. He was always willing to lend a helping hand to friends and neighbors.
In 1996 he purchased the former Boyer family residence and lived there until his final year. He had a green thumb for gardening. He loved tending to the property, working in his vegetable garden and being near his family. Every summer his kitchen would be filled with tomatoes, rhubarb, and other vegetables that he grew and gladly shared with others.
He had a love of guns of all kinds and enjoyed collecting them and target shooting with his family. He also loved driving his golf cart and his Corvettes.
Rollie was a wonderful grandfather to his grandchildren. He enjoyed taking them fishing and visiting with them whenever he could. He had recently built a BB gun shooting range in the basement of his home where he proudly spent many hours target shooting with his sons and grandsons.
At his request a celebration of life will be held at the Whitehouse PFA at a later date this summer. In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred to the Whitehouse PFA.
