Rodney Lee Babb

October 22, 1967 — July 14, 2021

Rodney Lee Babb, 53, of Port Clinton, Ohio passed away peacefully surrounded by family and friends who loved him dearly on July 14, 2021. He was born to Rolfe Babb and Rebecca Sherrard on October 22, 1967 in Findlay, Ohio. He was raised in Fostoria until he left for boot camp for the US Navy in 1986. Rodney proudly served his country until 1991. After his time in the Navy, Rodney settled into a career in the mining industry. He started working at Carmuese where he was introduced to the ins and out of the industry. That job made a lasting impression and many life-long friends. He then transitioned to under-ground gold mining in Elko, Nevada with Boart Longyear. There he met and married Kelly Reynon-Gregg. Missing his family and friends, Rodney and Kelly decided to return to his home state in 2018. Rodney had many passions and hobbies. He loved to go hunting with his three cousins, Jerry, Terry, and Garry, and his good friend Johnny. When Rodney was not hunting, he could be found on Lake Erie, spending many hours on his beloved boat the Chumstain. He could often be heard over the radio calling out, “Hey Vern!”. Rodney loved attending sporting events and enjoyed watching his boys play football for the local high school team. He loved to ride motorcycles and liked to visit his friend Charlie to “get a good deal” on the latest and greatest truck available. Rodney could always a bring a smile to anyone’s face with his wicked sense of humor. He would often to ask “Are you mad at me?”, just to get a smile. Rodney is survived by his loving wife Kelly, his two sons, Zachary Babb and Wyatt Gregg, his parents, Rolfe and Kathy Babb and Rebecca and Tom Sherrard, and numerous cousins, including Jerry and Rosie Ickes, Terry Ickes, and many other family members. His “BFF” and partner in crime, Jerry Schumm and his wife Bobbie-Jo, were by his side until the end. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. The family would like to thank Stein Hospice for their excellent care in his final days. A very special thank you from the bottom of our hearts to his home health nurse, Rachel Apling, who, in Rodney’s own words, “is an angel on earth”.
