Monroe, Michigan
Roberta “Birdie” Mae Maiden age 87, of Temperance, Michigan, passed away on October 17, 2026, at the Ebeid Hospice Center of Northwest Ohio due to recent illness.
Birdie was born Feb 20, 1939, in Monroe, Michigan, to Anna Mae Marlow & Jay Will Stanfill. On November 20, 1955, she married Stirl Maiden Sr. in Toledo OH. After forging a life together centered around family and hard work, Birdie and Stirl moved to Jeffersonville, KY in 1989. Her life’s work was her family. She devoted herself to raising children, nurturing generations, and expressing her love through the hundreds of meals she prepared for family, friends, and countless others. She was famous for her buttermilk biscuits- a testament to her patience, her warmth, and the comfort she freely gave to anyone in need. In 2021, she returned to Michigan where she resided with her children Tammy Hensley and Tony Maiden in Temperance. She found happiness in life’s simple pleasures- hunting for treasures at garage sales, tending to her gardens & lawn, a delicious donut, collecting seashells, and embarking on travel adventures with family and friends. She will be remembered as a spirted, resilient, and remarkable woman who’s infectious laugh could light up a room.
Birdie is survived by three children: Tammy Hensley (Temperance, MI); Tommy (Becky) Maiden (Jeffersonville, KY); Tony Maiden (Temperance, MI). Six siblings: Diane Lappek (Monroe, MI); Lana Kaminska (Monroe, MI); Beverly Heikkila (Temperance, MI); Barb Black (Monroe, MI); Betty (Jack) Rees (Chandler, AZ); Jay (Vanessa) Stanfill Jr (Debary, FL); Twelve cherished grandchildren: Anjaya VanSlambrouck, Shane Maiden, April Edelman, Michael Wilkinson, Brandi Curry, Courtney Riggs, Andrea VanSlambrouck, Maya Wilkinson, William Hensley, Zachary Maiden, Luke Maiden, Olivia Maiden; as well as eleven adored great grandchildren, with another expected in January. All were a tremendous source of love and pride in her life.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Stirl Maiden Sr.; son, Stirl Maiden Jr.; daughters, Debbra Maiden, and Martha Wilkinson; granddaughter, Myisha Russell; son-in-law, Robert Hensley; Siblings, Junior Marlow, Robert Ellison, Jerry Ellison, Larry Ellison, Jimmy Stanfill.
Per Birdie’s wishes, cremation has taken place, and a private memorial will be held in the state of Kentucky at a later date.
