Turner Robert Parks3/24/38-10/20/11 Bob was born in Toledo to Robert Myron and Erma Marie (Lutz) Turner. He attended Toledo Public Schools, graduating from Thomas A. DeVilbiss High School in 1956. Upon graduation, Bob enlisted in the U.S. Navy, serving two years of active duty and four years of reserve duty. In 1961, he met Karen Jeanne Adkins (“Buttons”) at St. Andrews Episcopal Church, and they were married there on October 12, 1963. Bob and Karen had forty-eight wonderful years together. They very much enjoyed land travels throughout the United States and cruising to ports in Alaska, Hawaii, the Caribbean, and in many European countries. Bob earned an associates degree in Law Enforcement and began his career as a police officer in Sylvania Township followed by the City of Sylvania. In 1969, he joined the City of Maumee Police Force and completed his career at the rank of Sergeant (Sgt. “Bubs”), retiring in June of 1990. Bobs pride and joy was his family (especially being a “Poppa”) followed by the fellowship of fraternal organizations. He rose to the position of Exalted Ruler of the Maumee Elks BPOE 1850 in 1993-1994. In 1998, he was appointed to the Zenobia Shrine line of officers and was elected to lead as Potentate in the year of 2004. His many memberships related to the Elks or to the Zenobia Shrine included the National Order of Turtles Pond #1 and the Royal Order of Jesters Court No. 21. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, parents-in-law Walter and Dorothy Adkins, and brothers-in-law Gerald Ward and Joseph Zawadzki. He is survived by his wife, Karen, son Robert Kevin (Lisa), grandchildren Kristen Marie, Robert Dale, and Travis John; and siblings Richard (Linda), Sue Ann Ward, and Randall J. Also surviving are brothers and sisters-in-law Merrilee Zawadzki, Thomas Adkins(Sheilah McAdams), James Adkins, Richard (Sue) Adkins, John (Beverly) Adkins, Beth (Gary) Meyers, and David (Victoria) Adkins as well as several nephews, nieces, aunts, and cousins.A Celebration of Bobs Life will take place on Sunday, November 6, 2011, at the Maumee-BG Elks No. 1850, 137 W. Wayne Street in Maumee. An Elks service will be held at 2 p.m. followed by fellowship. Please bring a smile and a “BOB” or a “BUBS” story to share.
