Robert C. Simonis, Jr.

Robert C. Simonis, Jr., age 64, a lifelong resident of Point Place, passed away on Thursday, April 29, 2021 at Aspen Grove, Lambertville, MI under the care of Hospice of Northwest Ohio. Robert was born in Toledo to the late Robert and Donna (Zimmerman) Simonis, Sr. Robert was a 1975 graduate of Woodward High School, where he played football; he also played for Point Place Junior High. He worked for Aklin Stamping Co. and Flow Form. Robert was also a proud member of UAW Local 12. As a boy, Robert loved baseball, especially the Detroit Tigers, and fishing. Within the past few years, he enjoyed gardening and decorating his yard. Robert was a longtime member of the Riverpoint Methodist Church on 131st Street. Robert is survived by 5 sisters, Dianne Keel, Linda (Robert) Kuehling, Joyce (Thomas) Hamrick, Barbara (Michael) Gruber, and step-sister, Leigh (Thomas) Ozuk. He is also survived by 11 nieces and nephews that he loved to tease, take fishing and watch them grow up. He was preceded in death by his parents; step-mother, Ursula Owens Simonis; step-brother, John Owens; and brother-in-law, Richard Keel. Words cannot express our appreciation for the wonderful care Robert received at Aspen Grove. He loved living there among many special and caring people that became like family to him. Special thanks also to Hospice of N.W. Ohio and nurse, Jeanine Schaffer who was there from the beginning until the end of Robert's journey. A private inurnment will take place at Ottawa Hills Memorial Park.
