Robert J. Schoch, Sr., age 74, passed away on April 28, 2022 surrounded by family at UTMC ICU. Bob was born on October 19, 1947 in Toledo, Ohio to Frank J. and Bernetta (Russeau) Schoch. Bob was diagnosed with lung cancer last year and had a lobectomy in August 2021, but never fully recovered from surgery. His cancer came back with a vengeance and it was too much to overcome. Bob was the second oldest in a family of five siblings. He attended Rogers High School and up until adulthood lived in the Dorr/Secor area on Turner Street in Toledo. Over his lifetime, Bob had a variety of interesting careers. Bob worked at Schoch Bakery, a family business, from time to time. Bob was a commercial truck driver and logistics specialist most of his life transporting various commodities from animal hides to explosive chemicals. During the oil boom, he moved his family to Texas and hauled rigs. For several years he was an OSHA expert in the food industry. Bob changed marriages like a pair of socks, although he kept going back to a favorite pair. Bob married Cindy Taylor three times. Although long divorced, Cindy lovingly helped with Bob’s care during his illness. Those who knew Bob knew how kind-hearted he was. He was always willing to help however he could. To listen to some of the stories he told, one could only smile. He made some poor choices along the way, but don’t we all. The heart’s memory eliminates the bad and magnifies the good. Surviving are his sons Bo (Lorraine), Jeff (Heather), Rick, Jack, Jeremiah (Yvonne), and Brian (Rocio). His son, Josiah (Sarah), predeceased him six years ago. Bob is also survived by many grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. His surviving sisters include: Christine (Tim) Bevins and Janine (Dennis) Losek. In addition to his son, Bob was predeceased by his parents and brothers, John and Tim. Memorial services will be private for family members. The family would like to thank Kathy, Lisa and all the staff at Genacross Wolf Creek Lutheran Village, Holland, Ohio for their care for Bob over the past two months. The family also thanks the ICU doctors and nurses at UTMC for helping Bob battle this ruthless disease.
