Robert J. Manley

March 6, 1938 — July 11, 2024

Robert J. 'Bob' Manley, 86, of Whitehouse, OH passed away shortly after midnight on July 11, 2024. He was born March 6, 1938 in Tecumseh, MI to Charles J. and Elizabeth (Maynard) Manley, the second of three children.

After graduating high school, Bob came to Toledo in 1958 to attend business college. It was there, while boarding at the YMCA in downtown Toledo he passed by the YWCA where Beverly resided while attending beauty school, that he first saw her. The rest is history. He married his 'beautiful Beverly' on August 1, 1959 in Fayette, OH. They would have celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary on August 1, 2024.

Bob was known for his quick wit and love of storytelling. He was a high school athlete who played football, baseball, and basketball. He was also a lifelong train enthusiast and in the 1970's was able to take an Amtrak trip from Toledo to Sacramento, CA which was one of the highlights of his life. He and Bev loved to vacation with their close friends, Charles and Dorothy Taylor, and took many camping, fishing and canoeing trips together with their families. Bob loved the University of Michigan Wolverines, Detroit Tigers baseball, and watching cooking shows.

Of note, through ancestry research it was discovered that, at 86 years old, Bob was the longest living Manley male in his direct line of grandfathers back to his 7X great grandfather who was born in the early 1600's. The early Manley's were part of the Massachusetts Colonies where William Manley was recorded as the second settler in the town of Easton, MA in the mid-1600's.

The family would like to acknowledge and share their deep appreciation for the loving and involved church community that surrounded Bob and Bev, not only during this time, but for all the years they've attended the Heritage Church. The parishioners’ care with prayers, meals, and continually checking in with Bev, was a blessing. Special thanks to Paster Tonya for her unceasing support, many hospital visits, words and prayers of encouragement, that brought such comfort to both Bob and Bev.

Bob is survived by his devoted and loving wife, Beverly; son, Jeffrey (Amy) Manley of Maumee, OH; daughter, Lisa (Mark) Lanciano of Temperance, MI; and son, Stephen (Brenda) Manley of Toledo, OH. He also has 12 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his older brother, Charles M. Manley and is survived by his younger sister, Marilyn (Manley) Kilbourn. A Celebration of Life will be held at Heritage Church, 3520 Strayer Road, Maumee, OH on Saturday, July 27th. Visitation with the family will be from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. with a service immediately following. Lunch will also be served.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, any donations be made to Heritage Church.
