Robert E. Hinde

May 27, 1946 — August 28, 2012

Bob Hinde, cherished husband, father, “Papa”, brother-in-law, uncle, and friend, passed peacefully into Heaven onTuesday August 28, 2012, surrounded by his family, after a courageous fight with pancreatic cancer. Bob loved life, giving the best of himself until the end. His body had done all it could do; his work on earth was finished. “Well Done, Good and Faithful Servant.”Bob was born on May 27, 1946 in Toledo, Ohio. He graduated from Rogers High School, class of 1964. He was drafted into the Army, serving valiantly in Vietnam in 1966-67. Upon his return he met and fell in love with Carol Crooks, whom he affectionately called “Red”, the love of his life. They married in 1969, together raising 3 beautiful children, and delighting in the arrival of 6 grandchildren.Bob was a man with a strong work ethic and took pride in having worked for local establishments including Champion Spark Plug and route sales at Pepsi Cola, Cains Potato Chips, and Entenmanns. Bob loved being amongst the people, always taking time to get to know others and leaving an impression wherever he went. He had no shortage of funny antics and stories.Bob enjoyed the simple things in life and made the most of every opportunity, making things better for others. He was a living example of mercy with a “can do” attitude, generous with his time and talents, and always available to help when he saw a need. He loved to have fun, often getting himself into crazy situations, and was known for his “Bob-isms”. He was not ashamed to have a good time, especially if he could give someone a laugh, even if it was at his own expense. Bob loved to work with his hands, bringing back to life worn-out pieces of furniture and skillfully creating others. He was known by his children and grandchildren for his ability to build and fix things, and his workshop was often visited by children in the neighborhood as well, for some repair or another. He took delight in being able to help others succeed, and spent many hours in that workshop, cutting and hammering, to do just that. Some of Bobs greatest passions were lived out during his retirement when he was able to devote his days and nights to service. He loved Jesus, his church, and participated in nearly all of its ministries over the years. Bob served on the Board of Trustees, took care of odd jobs as needed with the PALS, served on Kairos Prison Ministry teams, spent many years as the sound tech guy for worship services, made numerous visits to home-bound folks and sat at many bedsides comforting the sick, led children during Vacation Bible School, and invested into the Youth of MUMC for 15+ years. Bob had a heart for mission - locally and across the country, participating in various trips and projects, and inspiring many others to do the same. Bob touched countless lives, bearing others burdens and finding simple ways to touch hearts and share the love that filled him up. He was generous with kind words and smiles, and valued the stories of others. He was a man of deep compassion and used his resourcefulness to benefit those in need. He had a way of “leaving things better than he found them.”Bob is survived by Carol, his loving wife and teammate of 43 years; sister, Judy Marietta; children, Brian & Lori Hinde, Troy & Jennifer (Hinde) Lucas, and Jeremy & Carla Hinde; grandchildren, Savannah & Caroline Hinde, Evan, Carter & Avery Kate Lucas, and Spencer Hinde; and many beloved in-laws, nieces, and nephews. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Dorothy Hinde, and brothers, Harry Hinde and Norman Hinde. Friends will be received Sunday September 2, 2012 from 4:00 8:00 pm at Maumee United Methodist Church, 405 Sackett St., Maumee, OH.
