Richard Dick Troy

Richard (Dick) Troy, age 95, of Sylvania, Ohio, left this earth on October 25, 2016, to join his wife, Wanda, who passed away just a little more than two months before him on August 19. Dick was born in Columbus, Ohio on March 14, 1921, to Thaddeus and Ada Pearl Troy. Dick attended North High School in Columbus, Ohio, and Franklin University and Ohio State University. During World War II, Dick enlisted in the U.S. Naval Air Corp where he flew, tested, and delivered all types of Navy aircraft around the country.” After the war, Dick returned to Ohio State University, graduating with an Architectural Degree in 1950. Dick married his high school sweetheart, Wanda Cales, in 1944 in New York. His first daughter was born there then they moved to Toledo, Ohio, where two more daughters were born.” Dick and Wanda were married for 72 years. After receiving his degree in Architecture, Dick took a job with Bellman, Gillette and Richards in Toledo. He later formed his own firm, Richard M. Troy and Associates, where he practiced architecture until his retirement in 1991. Dick was an avid golfer belonging to Highland Meadows and then Inverness Country Club, where he enjoyed playing golf and cards with his buddies. He loved spending time with his daughters, traveling to Florida and Montserrat, and sports.” His favorite team was Ohio State and going to Ohio State/Michigan football games with friends was a yearly tradition for Dick and Wanda.” He was also active in many organizations, including, but not limited to, the American Institute of Architects, American Legion Post 335, Toledo Rotary, the Masons, Zenobia Shrine, and Royal Order of Jesters Toledo Court 21. Dick is survived by his daughters, Gay Escobar and Connie Troy, and nephew, Richard Troy (Debbie) and niece, Nancy Moran (Mark), and great nieces and nephews.” He was preceded in death by his wife, Wanda Troy; his daughter, Cheryl Samuels; and brother, Thaddeus Troy. Dicks family would like to thank all the caregivers who took such good care of him in his later years. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Epworth United Methodist Church, Parkcliffe Community, the Alzheimers Association, or charity of choice.
