Richard R. Zak, age 84, of Toledo, Ohio, passed away on February 1, 2017.” He was born in Bridgeport, CT., the son of Frances and Joseph Zak, now deceased. He was one of five children: Ruth, Joseph, Elsie and Bertha. Richard is survived by his children, David (Cindy) Zak, Vicky Zak, Debbie (Chris) Matheny, Sue Seiler and Steve (Diana) Gretzinger; his grandchildren, Siyeh Gretzinger, Fabiola Gretzinger, Colton Seiler, Ellie Seiler, Victoria McCoy, and Grace Zak; and his friend and wife, Marilyn Zak. He graduated from Warren Harding High School in Bridgeport, CT; attended NYU as a premed student; transferred to Philadelphia College of Pharmacy and Science; and graduated in 1955. He opened his own store (Ethical Pharmacy), which he operated for nine years. After closing the store, he worked for Sugarmans and Walgreens. He then was manager of Toledo Clinic Pharmacy, leaving to open and manage the first Gray Drug store in Toledo at Greenwood Mall, then helped open 3 other Gray stores. When they were bought by Rite Aid, he worked at several of their stores, then worked for Food Town before he retired. He was licensed to practice in Ohio, Michigan, and Arizona. He belonged to several organizations in Toledo including the Exchange Club of Trilby; he was President of the Green Mall Merchants Assn., Ohio Pharmacists Assn, American Pharmacists Assn, Toledo Pharmacists Assn, Toledo Drug Club, and several Masonic bodies. He was also a Shriner. Services will be private.
