Richard "Dick" Eugene Puppos of Toledo, Ohio, a loving father, devoted husband, and cherished friend, passed away on June 21st 2023. He leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, and kindness that will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew him. He was 86 years old.
Born on April 23, 1937 in Adrian, Michigan, Richard was the son of Julius Puppos and Eloise (Bassette) Bellair and one of 5 brothers.
He was preceded in death by his father Julius Puppos, mother Eloise (Bassette) Bellair, and brothers Robert, Ronald, and Robin. Richard is survived by his loving wife, Caroyln (Orr) Puppos, brother Roger (Judy) Puppos, sons Rick, Terry, and Scott along with his daughter, Kimberly (Tim) Warring. He is also survived by grandchildren Breanna, Nicole, Bobby, Bronson, Travis, Chad, Timothy, and Rachel along with many great grandchildren.
Richard graduated from Devilbiss High School in Toledo, Ohio and was a man of many talents who could strike up a conversation with anyone and converse about most subjects. He worked as an apartment maintenance supervisor for many years in Las Vegas, Nevada and Toledo, Ohio. His favorite job was as an airline baggage crew supervisor in Las Vegas, Nevada. He held many different jobs and was always willing to try something new. Richard's greatest source of joy was his role as a father and grandfather. He adored his wife Carolyn and they traveled across the country together many times. He loved his family and was especially fond of his grandchildren. He cherished every moment they spent together, creating beautiful memories that will forever be etched in their hearts. Whether it was attending their sporting events, cheering them on from the sidelines, sitting in the audience proudly watching their concerts or providing a shoulder to lean on during challenging times. He was always there, offering his unwavering support and love. He was their biggest fan.
Richard possessed a remarkable spirit and a wonderful sense of humor. Always quick witted, he had a joke at the ready for most situations. He approached life with a curiosity for all things and places and was an avid reader. Richard enjoyed anything having to do with cars, airplanes, auto racing and loved music. He enjoyed playing cards, trying his luck on video poker machines, and watching his favorite football teams (The Ohio State Buckeyes and The Raiders). He had extensive knowledge of the Toledo area and could give you directions to just about anywhere along with a history lesson on what used to be on every corner along the way. He enjoyed sharing his love of Nascar with his son Terry during their regular long distance phone calls. Richard had a special relationship with his son-in-law Tim who looked upon him as the father figure in his life.
As we bid farewell to a remarkable man, let us remember Richard for the love he shared, the lives he touched, and a taste of his humor. “Dad, why do you always read the obituaries? I have to, I want to make sure my name’s not in there!” Well Dad, if you’re reading this, I hope you are pain free and can have a laugh when you finally find that your name is in there.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date to be announced. The family kindly requests that any donations be made to The American Heart Association or The Alzheimer’s Association.
